This really isn't an informative .plan at all, actualy, it's just a bunch of screenshots showing off the recent graphical improvements to our main GUIs.
First off is the new options GUI:

Then there's the new join server gui:

Host mission:

And this is the awesome new team select/loadout/spawn GUI(by Matt Sanders):

This one is just a cool screenie from the first person view of a red team player brandishing an SMG.

Yes it is still in progress... but damn if it doesn't already look pretty slick. ;)

Pretty slick indeed! Looks terrific! The white text on the grey background is a bit hard on my eyes though. Have you considered making the lightish grey fill colour of the spawn/loadout dialog be the same dark blue gradient as the other GUIs? Not trying to be rude, I just wanted to let you know my first impression of your (very nice!) work.

I was thinking that too (making the spawn gui the same color)...what happened is that different parts of the GUIs were being worked on at near the same time and there was little collaboration. Its possible that might change as its an easy fix..thanks for the suggestions.

While I personally think it's OK, I can imagine players saying that the interface is still "ugly" as stands because all of the edges are rectangular and fixed-width. This makes it resemble the kind of GUI you would see in a 1980s or early 90s operating system - which is not the kind of association you want with the game.

But i would be interested in getting other peoples opinions as well before doing that. So feel free to post your opinions :)

Actually thats agood point james. I just might change the buttons to something a bit cooler and make it less boxy. But i would be interested in getting other peoples opinions as well before doing that. So feel free to post your opinions :)

I like the cursors...
#11
I'd suggest trying some different ones.

One thing I'd say, is that the techno font youre using is far too hard to read. It doesnt add to the "sci-fi" feeling enough to make the loss in readability worth it IMHO.I'd suggest trying some different ones.

The GUI looks nice, but I find it very difficult to read the dark blue on black text. Even the lighter text for Missions and Server Cycle is still hard to read imo.

Looks great!

Looks professional, in fact it looks way better than a lot of large commercial games' UIs/HUDs.

Is that Robotech font?

The Orange is kind of hard against the blue. I like the color selection, maybe soften them a bit.

I kinda agree with James W. Hofmann, it does kinda resemble 80's or 90's operating systems. Atleast thats the feel i get from it. Images 2 3 4, just don't sit right with me. I donno what it is. But the rest are beautiful, i love the hud.

You guys must realise that these are extremely low res jpegs. Alot of the clearity has been lost due to that. I do agree that the GUI has a very retro look to it, but IMO it fits almost too perfectly with the game. Some of the text in certain parts of certain screens is a bit hard to read, but that's just due to some bad color mixes(should be fixed sometime). Thanks for the comments/suggestions!
