Plan for Martin Askestad

I've had a license of TGE for almost a year now. I've also purchased TSE, T2D and a couple of content packs. Shouldn't I've been immortalised as a world famous game developer by now?? Probably I also need a good idea. And about a month ago I got the idea. After a quick search in google I've decided that it's an idea that nobody have realised before. Good or bad?? Perhaps nobody is stupid enough to try??

Now that I have my idea I can seriously start torquing! It seems that my idea required some modifications to the C++ source of Torque. This past year I've read documentation, Kenneth Finneys book and several forum posts. But I've never been close to looking through the source code of the engine. Where the heck do I start??

So last night (real hackers work at night). I got my bottle of cola. Put on my head phones, fired up VS2003 and started looking through the code, the source documentation on the web site. I also downloaded some resources related to the parts that I think I need to change. After a while I think I've figured out what I had to do.

I put on Greatest KISS. An ass kicking album. And started seriously munching code. After about an hour I noticed that I was getting kind of sweaty. Usually you don't get sweaty from writing code. Then I realised that I've been playing air guitar for the past hour. Probably KISS wasn't the best choice to listen to when you're trying to write code.

Then my computer got kinda funny. So I thought that if I uninstall some old stuff, run a registry fix program and a defrag my computer would be all cudly again. Fist I noticed that Installshield had completley broken down. No installshield uninstallation would even start. The registry fix program reported over 600 errors. And my hard drive was showing over 60% fragmantated files.

Only after running a repair on XP I got installshield working again. The registry seems fixed and when defrag tried to defrag my Windows Vista virtual hard drive, a file of about 20gb. The system locked up. So I decided to remove the file completely.

So finally at 7:40pm the following day my computer is running again. I've got the latest ATI Catalyst drivers and my hard drive seems to be running again. But I've still haven't gotten any C++ coding done!!

I think I'll try this again next weekend. As long as my computer don't implode on me.

Oh by the way, I'm not telling you about my game idea.... yet.

Motivation is harder to manage than code! I personally do all my coding to classic rock albums as well as some modern stuff; works well for me. :)

Good luck,

lol sounds like me every weekend. I start off with my script editor open and my great game idea.

After 10 mins I decide I need to google something and then go off on lots of different tangents.

I might actually start listerning to music and not have the TV on.

good luck with it.

TV is evil. It will kill you. Turn it off.

I usually rock out to game soundtracks when coding. lol
Did my final project in C++ class to the Diablo2 soundtrack. Its one of my favorite discs actually. Total Anilation is good to.

Agreed. Absolutely, under no circumstances expect to get anything doing with a TV around. TV = Distracting / Mind-Zapping!

I do the same thing as Darren. Sit down, put on the headphones, que the music, start working, and 10 minutes later I'm reading pages upon pages of information and not getting any real work done. :[

I'm going to see how much I can get done with the network cable unplugged. I wouldn't be suprised if I learn more that way.

That could be a bad idea... since most of the information is available on this website.
