Plan for Mark Frohnmayer

To all who attended IGC 2005 I want to say thanks - I had a great time talking games, playing games, seeing games, and connecting with a bunch of you out there who are doing such cool things. I also want to thank all the people here at GG who put on out an awesome show, and to the Marble Blast Ultra team for getting a great build together on Thursday. IGC this year was very exciting - the Indie games movement we're all a part of appears to be gaining quite a bit of momentum, and the market is ripe with opportunities for indie developers.

A few personal highlights from the show:

Talking game design with Logan, Adrian, Justin and Brett
Talking game design with Joe and all the people who came to our session
Whoopin' up on the Marble Blast Ultra tourney winners (sorry guys!)
Witnessing Adam and Tim's brilliant strategy in Attika
Justin D's "I love you guys" moment at the mic
The wind-down night at Steelhead

In other news, if you haven't had a chance to read Jeff's blog, give it a read. Over the next year we're going to be taking a more active role in helping promising game developers get their games tightened down and finished, so any interested developers should feel free to ping Jeff to get involved. We have a lot of cool stuff on tap over the next year - from the launch of a console that supports indies to games, to some really exciting tech stuff, and much more. Stay tuned...

IGC was awesome. I hardly got to talk with you at all, Mark...but I keep saying that about half the people I was looking forward to talking to. Maybe I'll come two days early next year. :-)

Well said Mark. IGC was even more of an incredible experiance this year than it was in past years. Great sessions, great people, great food, great beer and lots of opportunities to network with other individuals from around not only the GarageGames community but in the games industry as well. So much to learn, so much to soak in and deconstruct so that you understand it all as best as possible and I think everyone left feeling very positive and as though they have a lot of foward momentum

BTW Mark, I agree that the discussions on game design were awesome in many ways I think it will help us move forward faster and better than ever before. Thanks once again for taking the time to sit down and chat, it is very much appreciated.

Has anyone tested the TGE with Visual Studio 2005 yet?

@Michael: TGE 1.4 compiles fine in VS2005, as long as wchar_t is not treated as an inbuilt type. There were some issues with winnt.h in the new platform sdk, but I was able to bypass them easily enough, or you can simply use an older platform sdk.
