Plan for David "Fulcrum" Wyand

Greetings!
Another IGC is upon us. Hooray! For me it began on Wednesday by making the epic journey from Toronto to Eugene, arriving in the evening. After tracking down the GG folks and others that had arrived early, I started to get caught up on the latest happenings.
Maybe I should prepare for the various talks that I'll be giving over the next few days? Naw...Evil Josh Williams convinced me otherwise so it was time to go out and drink. That guy is such a slacker. :o)
Thursday
Thursday is both set up day and Associates day. After stopping by the GG office I head over to the hall to help set up the computers and tables.

You'll note poor Tim on the right nursing a Marble Blast injury. In the GG office I've heard they play it full contact...
One thing that is impressive this year is all of the Mac's with 30" screens. These are huge and make you feel like a god when you see your software on them. I hope everyone brought an OSX build of their games!
Once the set up was complete using the slave labor..er...Associates, it was time to eat and then have the Associates gathering.

We had a preview of what is to come including presentations by two 3rd party tool/kit developers whose names begin with D and J. All really hush hush so that we can keep the air of mystery around the Associates' Enclave. You'll note in the picture above we're not wearing our hooded robes. We save those for later in the evening.
All I can say is that there is some cool stuff coming, but unfortunately can't talk about it here. :P
Oh, and a warning for those that will be attending. Watch out for this guy:

That camera is surgically attached to his hand. I don't know who let him in.

The pictures have the feeling that IGC is layed back and slow, does it feel that way while you're there?

FYI, that's Ben "Pavaracci" Garney (his new name!) with the camera, and trust me, he could hang with the most notorious! Tom Cruise should feel lucky that Ben isn't on his trail....

Actually, that's Ben. But they're both tall so I can understand the confusion. :o)
It is hard to capture the energy of IGC in pictures. After a full day on Thursday, many of us were exhausted (myself included) and couldn't believe that the real conference was yet to come! Hmm, in fact I need to head out there in a half-hour.
When the Associates and GG got together it was very much like a family reunion. With it comes a familiarity (and occasional bickering) that puts you at ease, so perhaps that is what is coming across in the pictures.
Interesting enough Jeff mentioned that seeing all of the Associates sitting around during the presentations reminded him of the size of the very first IGC. Oh how far it has come in just four years...

I'm glad to hear that it's fun and layed back.
Maybe when I get something together worth sharing, I'll make the journey to Eugene.

I originally had it as "Ben Camera-hand" and you posted the followup picture of the xbox $360 and it said Mark while I was typering, and they looked similar, (blonde hair, similar jacket) so I changed it. I second guessed myself. *sigh* I'm glad to hear that it's fun and layed back.

That's Mark playing Marble Blast Ultra on a beta version of the Xbox 360. Coolness. Thursday night just before we left, all of the Xbox's were connected up to the Internet and allowed for a 5 player game of MB. You have to get used to seeing all those marbles rolling around the screen at once...
