I have now after having got my base images in the game and working I have taken a step back to revamp the look of the GUI's to talior them more to our game and make them give the game more of a attitude and match the feel we are going for. where before it was not as clear for any of us the feel and the look of the game I had just taken some things from previous GUI's done for previous class projects that were similar but now I have gone back and started to rethink them and think I now have a better GUI, would love feed back from anyone. Always like to hear what others think and ideas and thoughts for my GUIs.

I second James' comment. It's fine to have some lighting/shadow, but none of the pieces match. The title is getting light form the bottom right and the horizontal bar seems to get light from the top and the menu choices dont seem to have a visible light source.
After looking at it again, either the horizontal lines or diagonal lines may have to go.
Also, the little wisps in the bottom left quadrant: are they clouds? If its a planet, maybe put a bit of colour to it but keep it faded.
It seems from the title that this is some sort of combat game, be it a fps, or strategy, etc.
maybe some animated space vehicles or stations could be in the background, orbit the planet.
The box on the right seems that it would have to in game pics or something which would be nice.

The 'after' gui is better, but the menu choices look off. It would be better if they were centered between the two diagnal lines.I second James' comment. Monochrome would be ok, but then you throw in saturated blue element. Blue element would be fine, but then you need it reflected in some other elements too.
Think of it as a house of cards, each element is crucial, you have to think twice both adding any and taking some off the scene, since all your house may come down so easily.

Well, actually they are but you have to be really subtle and keep everything in some tight color schemes.Monochrome would be ok, but then you throw in saturated blue element. Blue element would be fine, but then you need it reflected in some other elements too.
