Plan for Jacob Fike (valinorbob)

With the help of the feedback from my previous plan, I have been able to finalize my goals for my game-oriented project management tool. I have decided to make it a host-it-yourself package, with a MySQL version and an XML version. The XML version should have an advantage in speed over the MySQL version, but will require PHP5.
Features:
Multiple Projects with user access granted per project
Project overview with calendar of upcoming events
Progress Reports
Messages with custom categories
Tasks and To-do lists with status tracking and deadlines
RSS 2.0 feeds configurable on a per-project basis
File uploads/downloads
Possible features:
Integration with popular CVS applications
Website shell template for pseudo-CMS functionality
Public forum script
I am going to setup an alpha test on my own server with open registration so that I can get some feedback on it, then there will be a public beta release (hopefully with a finalized design), followed by a final release.
I need a name for this tool, though, and will probably need some help on the final interface design. Those with suggestions for a name or interested in helping with the design can email me at valinorbob at gmail.com.

Wow. Is this a free project or are you looking to turn a profit ? I'd like to get my hands on this sometime in the near future :)

This would be a free release, although I will gladly accept donations. I am doing it more for personal experience and to help the community than for hope of profit. It would be great to land a steady job because of it, though.

I would suggest using subversion instead of cvs. Having used cvs for years i can tell you that binary files are poorly handled in it.

Maybe you can find some nice features that you will like to implement in your solution.

I will recommend you to look at dotProject software. It is a very nice tool. I'm using it in conjunction with CVS/Mantis to manage all my projects and I've been very satisfied too.Maybe you can find some nice features that you will like to implement in your solution.
