My company name is Spunky Games. I registered the business name about a month ago, and have been trying to figure out a good logo evers ince.
I had a photoshop friend of mine throw together some logos for me, and I couldn't really decide which one to use.
I asked on irc 2 days a go, and everyone said 6... I asked yesterday and noone could agree on anything... So I threw together a little logo of my own.
I need to choose one soon. So feel free to vote for the one you like best.
The 6 my friend made:
The one I made:

I personally like 5. Everyone felt that 6 needed something but noone could realy give me a definitive answer, so now Im asking you guys.
EDIT: Just a note. Most people understand why I can't use logo 2 ;)

2 looks really cool and would get stuck in my mind, much like the old Blizzard logo. But it won't look good on prints and such.Nr 5 is a favourite, and then nr 6.

I hope I don't offend, but I don't think any of the logos are very good. You're selecting from 6 amateurish options. I would send your friend back to the drawing board.
Remember that you're setting the image for your company - font, logo, colours and so on. These things will need to be on business cards (possibly in colour), letterhead, fax cover pages, emails, websites and, of course, your game. Keep the colours simple for the base logo - you can always add flair to things like splash screens.

@Jason: you saved 4 characters and yet made your post almost unreadable. I hope I don't offend, but I don't think any of the logos are very good. You're selecting from 6 amateurish options. I would send your friend back to the drawing board.

Your statement is vague. Care to offer an example ?

6 looks the best by far. It looks like a real logo, and it fits the name. 3, 4 and 5 look ok, but they certaintly dont look "spunky" to me.

Do the squint test... when you squint can you read any of the names.... #6 is the clearest one for me when I squint.

Now the more complex color scheme you are lookign at in #6 can work fine in print and on tshirts, but you are always going to have to front up the cash for high quality full color screenings, same when your printing letterhead, or flyers and things like that.
That is why a lot of companies keep the logos simple and with 3 or less colors... Think about the IBM, AT&T, Verison or GG logos all are simple, low color logos with basic font styles and no effects such as showing, fades or highlighting. You can always add 3D effects, shadowing and more colors when you are doing high quality presentations for Booth banners and tradeshows as needed. But is is really difficult to get a high rez base image to look good (or even recognizeable) in a low quality print screen or letterhead. I think that is what Tim was trying to say.
Now that is just normal practice. If you are happy with your designs then none of that matters. If yoru sticking with those design choices I licke #5 followed by #6.

@Chris: I agree with Tim on the base that keeping it simple is best. I don't think any of the images are really bad but not great either. When your looking at a company logo you generally want to keep it to 3-color for simplicity, silk screening t-shirts as well as letterhead and stuff. Fades, shadows and highlighting don't translate well to things like tshirts, hats and letterhead, normally...Now the more complex color scheme you are lookign at in #6 can work fine in print and on tshirts, but you are always going to have to front up the cash for high quality full color screenings, same when your printing letterhead, or flyers and things like that.

Perhaps you can come up with several derivatives on that logo and see what else jumps out at you.

Number 6 by far. It is fun and approachable. It works well with the word "Spunky" since it has slightly rotated, off-kilter letters. It looks spunky. The small red star really does something to add to the logo.Perhaps you can come up with several derivatives on that logo and see what else jumps out at you.

I like # 6, I think it is missing depth. Try adding in a different color for either the area behind the letters or the leters. I was thinking a red, yellow, or orange.

There's something very family oriented and fun about that logo. Personally, I'd fill the letters in with bright primary or maybe pastel colors, each letter a different color or some such. I suppose that's only if you don't mind your company logo looking like the Toys R Us logo.
Regardless, keep in mind that you can always change it later. Go ahead and choose something you like right now, and plan to have something better down the line. As long as you're just in start-up phase, branding isn't really a huge issue yet. My marketing intuition says a company logo won't be a necessity until you have product. Most gamers are introduced to developers game first, after all. In the mean time, pick something that makes you happy and roll with it. :)

I like #6, but mostly because it reminds me of the Funimation logo.
