Plan for Brandon Maness

Last week I started a 'developerDiary' to give a small glimpse into some things that were going on behind the scenes. I started the diary with the idea of a platform type FPS game that would really serve as a test bed for future tutorial content, so here is a quick look into DTS platforms that move with players on them.

And here is a link to the video if you want to see it in action.

Are you doing this with any of the vehicle code? Did you try playing with .dif's?

I did look into the .dif code before deciding which way to go. TGE1.4 is reportedly going to have pathed interiors. This was another reason I chose DTS shapes; as not to reinvent the wheel, or waste time with a resource that is already underway.
As I get the resource completed there will be a video series on the 'Method of Discovery' used to complete the task.

EDIT: as a side note, this resource may also work on DIF shapes as well because it is enhancing the player.cc code which affects any surface the player is standing on. I'll have to check it out.

@David: No vehicle code, just a few lines of code in the player.cc file. In the video on Aug 1 I talked about which direction I wanted to go and why. I decided on DTS shapes because of high poly shape potential vs simple brushes in .difsI did look into the .dif code before deciding which way to go. Are you using Camtasia Studio 3 for your videos? It is a great program and I am trying out the trial version before I spend $300.
Thanks again for releasing your tutorials to the GG community.

@Brandon: I just wanted take a minute to say Thank you! Your video tutorials got me doing more things with TGE than ever before. I got TGE three years ago and could have really used these then. Your welcome! It's nice to be able to help people out. There is a free open source option that CamtasiaStudio originated from.
sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/
I personally use CamtasiaStudio3 for the videos on the website. The main difference between the free version and the $300 one is options. For $300 you get streamlined .swf creation with editing capabilities. I don't use the editing much (the videos are free ya know!), but if I produced a commercial quality cd/dvd video series the editing would come in handy. More than anything I enjoy the streamlined .swf creation. I bought the product to support the company more than anything, as I could have made the site videos with the open source version, but I really enjoy how easy CamStudio3 makes generating .swf files.
Hope this helps you out.
If you've enjoyed the videos so far, just wait. I've almost completed the 'objects' segment of the intro to scripting series. It finally starts touching the surface of some interesting aspects of torque.

Thanks for the fast reply and info. I downloaded the free version and gave it a try. I see what you mean about the swf format. I probably will get CamtasiaStudio3 in a few months. I'll use the free version til then.
I have been checking daily for updates to your tutorials. :P
Thanks again for your help!
