Plan for Andy Schatz

Adam DeGrandis has teamed up with Pocketwatch Games to create the environmental art and design the levels for Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa.

You may know Adam and his excellent art and nunchuck skillz from his GG presence or his Torque-flavored game art repository, Games Extract. Adam will also be heading to Eugene soon for an internship at the House of Torque itself. But in the meantime (and hopefully his off hours while he's there), Adam will be creating environments, designing levels, and putting together various artistic needs for Pocketwatch Games.

Here are the first images of his work... Trees, edible grass, and environmental models like rocks and termite mounds have not yet been added. I can't even imagine how beautiful these environments will look when he adds those in.

Also, keep in mind that the game spans all four seasons as well as night and day, so this is just the look for a mid-morning dry-season level.

Without further ado, heres a watering hole emptying into a mudflat:

and a dried up watering hole, just waiting to be filled by the player:

Compare those to the programmer art that I had put together, and you can really see the difference.

We're really excited about having Adam on board with our project. We can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

Good job Adam, it's not simple to make some good environments.

Dang, that is some cool looking environment you got there. Nice work - really shows off the difference good art can make!
