Plan for Rick Overman

Minor CSS update this morning.... I am sure I am going to get a lot of whining but focus testing research clearly shows that sites with underlined links are easier to navigate. Color is also important the classic blue/purple is more quickly recognizable than some other combos (ahem our old red). GarageGames is growing and web standards are becoming more important.
+The text is virtually black now so the forums are easier to read.
+Other minor CSS changes
+There are still a few people with forum problems, I have reproduced the problem and should have it fixed today.
The Community page is a work in progress expect a lot of changes there in the next few weeks. The old community section was just part of the right column, now we have a whole page! Please let me know what you would like to see on there and why.
ok, I need to back to coding on the site, more blogs, soon.

I would like the "recently forum posts" section included, as well as the "my shortcuts". PS is the Associate forum comming back online?

If you modified things so that blog list and forum thread titles were not underlined, just links inside blogs/posts/news items were underlined, then it might look nicer.
above is just imo though and is bound to differ from most of the world :P

I don't mind the odd underlined link, but it does look a little too much when you go to browse the forums and every link is underlined. Still, its css so you can tweak all you want :P I just think that too many underlined links in lists looks a little ugly, for example the community page doesn't look as good now imo as it did yesterday. If you modified things so that blog list and forum thread titles were not underlined, just links inside blogs/posts/news items were underlined, then it might look nicer.

Other than that, I dont mind a little retro look. White background, black text, blue links is what some of us grew up with

What I really would like, is for the oooold bug regarding wrongly formatted resource links on the personal pages to be fixed.... ;-)Other than that, I dont mind a little retro look. White background, black text, blue links is what some of us grew up with

Chris- That was a photoshop meant as a joke :) But I DO wish we had that back, and since there's space for 10 rather than 5, maybe that would alleviate some of the complaints of it always being out of date.-Andy (with a y :D)

Ah, and I would love it if you could fix it so that when I click on the Notify check box after I've entered the text for my post, it doesn't reload the page, causing me to lose all the text I wrote. I've done that many many times and had to rewrite my post.

Yeah. I just did that.
Anyway, I do find the underlined links annoying. Many of the pages travelled (forum cats, community pages) are comprised mostly of links and the underlines are distracting. This is true especially in OSX because the current font has an odd spacing of the underline which almost makes it distinct from the link, making it difficult to scan.
I've been developing web pages for some time now and gotta say that focus testing doesn't always hit it's mark. This isn't whining, just an opinion. Good work overall on the site changes - much cleaner and easier to navigate. I just think the underlines are a step backward from that.

So great job on that and the nice new look! The presence of only one vertical nagivation bar really gives my 800x600 view much more real-estate when reading posts!
Little whines include - I like the old-school colored links, but the underlining seem a bit much :P Some bugs with submitting posts not being allowed at seemingly random times, lots of instances of losing text when submissions fail. It'd be cool to use one of those text box types that save what was written in the when you use the back button - very handy!
Overall, great work, and it just keeps getting better!

First of all, BIG props on the super-smooth transition! It was like one minute I'm on the old GG, and the next I'm on... where am I? Oh! The new GG!So great job on that and the nice new look! The community page DID look better without the underlined links. Oh, and while I like the new text color, the links for names in the forums is just f-ugly. Bold and no underline might be better.

One final thought. Are underlines needed on image links? Looks a little wierd.

One thing I would like to see in the future is an RSS feed for blogs. A single feed that includes both Community and GG blogs would do the job nicely. I think theres an rss feed for individual user blogs, which is nice, but having a global feed as well would round things off nicely. One final thought. Are underlines needed on image links? I like the underlined and "html"ish style, brings back good memories and is easy on the eyes.

I find the new look very clean and slick. It also seems to load fast, dunno if it's any difference or just the new webserver.I like the underlined and "html"ish style, brings back good memories and is easy on the eyes.

Another oddity with the underlined CSS is that it's linking certain images like the edit/delete icons ... also distracting and makes the two almost like a unified element instead of two distinct ones.

Keep up the good work!

One thing I haven't found on the new site is the CVS changelist. I liked to check that out every week or so to see if anything interesting had been added. I think it would be nice to have a "most recent changes" notifier on the community page. One listed "change" would be sufficient for me, since I would go to see the details on a new change anyway. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic work! Underlining links makes all the difference!

One thing I noticed was that the My preferances page has at the bottom Misc. Settings which is the number of search results per page, but I think this was meant for the old search engine, not the new Google one.Fantastic work! Underlining links makes all the difference!

http://www.garagegames.com/docs/tge/general/pt05.php
but as of right now, that shows "Maya2DTS" instead of max. indeed, the max docs seem to have been completely replaced and are now missing... Will they be coming back?

Another thing if I might add, is that in IE 6, It seems as if some plans end up below the left navigation bar. Such as Josh D.'s latest plan..(BTW: Nice Picture there)
