Plan for Jeremy Alessi

OK, so my PC had been stuttering for the last month. It was beginning to get scary so last night I made the final backups for my PC and sent them to my Mac. Just as I was going to refresh the system with a new install of Windows the computer wouldn't boot anymore. Apparently, it burned something out.
It was recommended that I check the HD first. So ... I Changed the old 30 gigger to an 80 gigger. No difference ... or very little anyway. Since I had wanted to upgrade my old 1Ghz system anyway I figured there was no better time so I headed to CompUSA and bought an nForce3 Motherboard, an Athlon 64 2800+ Processor, and a new 512 MB stick of PC 3200 RAM.
Mind you this is the first time I've ever built my own system. I used the old Compaq case that I had (it worked although many people thought it could be a problem). Some of the connections are a bit wonky but after several hours I took the whole thing apart, put it back together with the new components, installed all new software, and was playing Doom 3 ... finally at more than 1 fps during enemy battles!
Not only did I get this but I got a sweet deal on an older machine ... a complete system though with I believe an 800 MHz processor (it plays Aerial Antics very well even with it's onboard video so it can't be half bad) that should make for a good Linux box. My friend offered this computer to me so that I wouldn't have to buy new components (which were farily expensive but worth it for the upgrade) but I figured what the heck for $200 I'd take it on top of the components and be able to do a nice 4 system LAN (with my laptop) and also have a Linux machine to do more porting. I've always wanted to have a room full of computers ... I actually don't have as many as I envision in the future but it's getting there. Should definitely be easier to develop multiplayer games once I have this setup complete.
When I think about it the last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind of computers. I got the Mac, then the new PC components ... and then yet another PC. Overall though the price of having essentially 3 sorta new full systems is really good. I was thinking of buying an iMac G5 when I got the Mac Mini but now I've got 3 systems (Mac Mini, a powerful PC, and a lower end PC) and a network all for $1,350 which is what it would have cost to buy an iMac G5. Granted I'm using some older components like a 1997 Packard Bell monitor ... but it really doesn't matter ... having the computers all here and ready for cross platform development and testing is what really matters and now I've got it!
Time to finish the backup transfer and get KOTM running on the new PC. Hopefully, I won't have problems compiling the engine on the Athlon 64 Processor ...

Ahhh ... it does work and it's a beautiful thing!

Haha, a room full of computers is great. I had 4 in my dorm room, although I am in the process of cannibalizing 2 of them to make one somewhat decent computer. I'm tired of running FreeBSD and wanting to run a GUI-based version of Linux next.
