Plan for Rob "Scar" Parton

Well, I've taken some time for myself the last few days (job hunting), so I haven't worked on anything at all. I've gone out, looked for a new job, and gamed. FFX-2 International and Radiata Stories have been reinvigorating me, since I haven't had a chance to use japanese in...years. The former reminds me that a good game is based on gameplay first, story second. I can ignore the story in that game and it still rules.
I've been thinking it over and after some discussion and suggestion by a few friends, I've decided I'm gonna just have to whip up a portfolio for my interface work. GUIs are um, rather important, in games, so in theory, there should be a market for them, right? I'm relatively good at them (imo, I guess), and I love doing it so why not? That is my major plan for this week. And more gaming.

GUI work isn't just important in games. I would wip up the work to show what you can do for business software in general. GUI design is an art not generally understood by those who pay the bills which is unfortunate because it's the link between the user and the software. Anyway, whip up screens for a resume and send it to software companies and try for work as a GUI designer. I'm sure you thought of this but just in case I thought I'd throw my $.02 in. Wish I had the money to hire a GUI designer for my job.

Uh... I think that was directed at Rob, not me.

@Joe: Totally agreed. I've used many programs (not just games, actually usually not games) I just couldn't work with. My biggest gripe is when I find an application that does what I want, but the interface is so terrible that I can't use it.
Form follows function, but make sure the form lets it function.

@Chris: Once I have my portfolio up and stuff I will probably post in the hire section of the forums. I figure I will anyway.@Joe: Totally agreed. Good luck keep your chin up. Yea make a web portfolio you can put on your resume. Or a printed one. Or both...
