Plan for Adam Beaumont

Hmmm, one year since my last plan probably tells the story about how my game dev has been going recently.
Things were going ok on the indie front until around this time last year when real life caught up with me and my old employer made me an offer I couldn't really refuse. Suddenly we're 12 months down the line so now is probably a good time to reflect on how things have gone.
In terms of the things I did in indie mode - Conquest Marines (the UT2k3 mod) did ok - we won a couple of prizes in the MSU contest and it was a good way to get into games dev - as a first project I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. The work I did with Torque in 03/04 worked out pretty well as I now have a fairly clear idea of how the engine works and where everything fits in.
The only real disappointment about the whole experience was not being able to ship anything in that time. Project B made good progress and in multiplayer mode provided a really good game experience - maybe we focussed too much time on trying to get the single player game working well when we should have polished the multiplayer game, got it released and then continued dev (or not) depending on feedback.
Going forward how are things looking ? Well, I have very limited time so it's proving tough to keep up with dev. I still have the code and the ideas for ProjectB so that may well get moving again in slightly modified form. In my limited spare time I have been putting together a very simple game which I'm hoping to be able to complete. I scaled back everything I could to the bare minimum in terms of functionality and gameplay - even then there are still tons of things that need sorting out - I'm really trying to focus on getting it releasable and not get distracted by other things (the I'll stop working on this and start this even better idea for a game / tool etc syndrome )
So who knows, maybe you'll be seeing something from Leafcutter Studios in the near future or maybe it will be another year before I can give you an update. In any case I'll continue to check the GG forums every day to read the latest .plans and keep up with whats happening.

I don't know if this will help or not but I am in the same situation. I left a hefty job to take a job that paid less but would give me more time with my family. That is the most important thing to me.
I wanted to keep up with my outside development but I couldn't find all the time I wanted to do it with without intefering with my family. Wich was the reason I left my other job to begin with.
I kind of solved the problem by just doing what I can when I can. I don't set to high of goals and I promise my self a lot less hours then I am capable of putting in.
This way I don't get discuraged and I always pretty much end up doing more then I put time aside for.
That's just me though
