We have a 7 member team and need more members. Here is what we need:
1) 3d artist (w/ a flare for texture design.)
2) concept artist.
These 2 members will not be taking on the load but will assist in the creation of the characters (with exception to texture designing).

There are great MMORPG's? Why didn't I get to beta those?

Erm, actually perhaps you should listen to him and start a little smaller.

Bah, dont listen to Logan, what has he done in the industry. Well, apart from Realm Wars, Critical Subterfuge, Lore, as well as working for the BBC, presenting at IGC, writing Torque tutorials.Erm, actually perhaps you should listen to him and start a little smaller.

Please DON'T make an mmorpg, unless you happen to have more money that Sony or Lucasarts.

Make whatever you want. Noone can stop you but yourself. Stay positive. Whatever you can't do you can just hire someone. There is a lot of talent within the GG community as well as other sites that would appreciate the contract work so anything is possible.

(I wonder if on indie movie boards there's people that post messages, "I have a crew of one and I've never made a movie before, but I've got this great idea for a film that's like The Matrix but with...")

Nah, I think most of those people are too busy posting here about making an mmo :P
Everyone else-
I mean it IS possible, technically, but the cheapest made MMO I can think of (www.furcadia.com) cost the creators (I talked to them personally about it) $50,000. Now I'm not sure what kind of income you have, but to make a simple social mmo, 2D, ect ect (And these aren't amateurs, the 2 co-creators also programmed and did the art for the entire Ultima series, and the first Ultima Online) paying $50,000 for very little return (Not many people are willing to pay a subscription fee to a 2D game these days unless its for Ultima Online in which case I have a feeling it's just because of their deep UO roots) doesn't seem very economically pleasing to me. But thats up to you.

the middle-ware we are looking at will cost roughly 500,000 dollars US. We are budgetting in the length of time the project will take and how many members we will need in total. Of course we are doin as much as we can without having to get more members, but we reached a point where we need these 2 members now. If you are curious, let me share our vision with you and maybe you might want to be a part of this as it is still in the early stages. BTW You're right Eric, I found a team who wanted to start a game. at first they were planning on a fps but when I showed them my concept they quickly changed their minds. As you can see we are 7 and growing. We have been going full-time on this for a couple months now so you can imagine how much planning, research, and actual work has been done on this.

If you want to make a MMO you need to first make a few good games and understand what goes into them and all the hard work and effort required. Learn the engine inside and out, learn what goes into making art for games, learn how to design a game, learn more and more and more and then when you think you have learnt it all... keep learning because its just a tiny drop in the bucket towards the MMO mountain (its that one way off in the distances that is preceeded by FPS, RTS, RPG, Adventure, Puzzle and Simulators)
