Plan for Josiah Wang

If you recall in my last plan, you'll find that I set out on a journey to make a game where you control a Blob. Well, scratch that plan.

I've been working on a small game for the past two weeks. It's another one of those space shoot-em-up flight games, where you control this craft. There really is no story to it yet, but I do have most of the things I need.

I've also been modelling multiple vehicles for my game. It's all really bad (as you will soon see), and I have absolutely no texturing skill. Before posting these models, I'd like to thank many of you who helped me on the gameSpace dts exporter forums. These are the people who answered my posts, the posts of a newbie. I just want to say thank you for replying with such great info =D

And now...the really bad art...

I haven't thought of naming these yet....heck, they aren't even worthy of names...but all that matters is that I've had a chance to practice modelling, something I never even dreamed I would be able to do. The one on the right is my first one - it looks ok, I guess. The red one was my second plane - at first, I thought it looked like a killer, but after seeing other spaceships, it looked nothing like. The one of the left is my most recent one. As you can see in all three, I have no texturing/uvmapping skills. I'll probably end up giving these away...

One of the things that's still bugging me is weapons. I've emailed BraveTree about their Warsparrow pack, and they said that the weapons are mounted weapons, which is exactly what I need. However, since I'm still in high school, $20 doesn't come around a lot...plus my parents would probably not let me buy it anyways...so i've been hacking away trying to get it to mount weapons. I even sent an email to some of the developers who have posted in the Development Shots section who have the same type of genre...

so some issues that are still hindering me:
-mounting weapons on vehicles
-actually making the vehicle a player (i've been basically toying around with the flying vehicle resource, so it's actually been in starter.racing for a while...). This part I *think* people achieve by somehow 'blending' the FlyingVehicle Data and PlayerData datablocks together...not sure...can anyone with experience help?
-somehow the turbo stops working once you get to a certain altitude. I tried looking for it in the script datablocks, but to no luck. Anyone help?

I'll come back with more stuff when I've made more progess on the gameplay side...

just downloaded the TBE - looks rather sweet!

I gotta start working on apocalypse again soon...for those of you who don't know, it's an open-source web game i'm developing using php and mysql...I worked on it for the entire summer and few a weeks into the school year...

Good head start, keep working. The art is good, and it will get better with time. :)

the reason you get stopped at a certain height is your flight ceiling.. look in your missionarea datablock, ie open a mission.. look for this.. flightCeiling = "300"; flightCeilingRange = "20"; the first number will be the ceiling.. so raise it.. the range I am not sure about.. but play with the numbers and you will get it worked out.. :)
