Plan for Josh "The_Force" Moore

Illumina(illumina-game.com) has scraped our old source, and started fresh with Torque 1.3. The old codebase was way too unstable to even try to use. We had horrible crashes from trying to fire a gun, and from just playing online. The switch to 1.3 is the best thing to happen for us since MGM shut down the Stargate game.

The new build already has a ton of features that the old one didn't even come close to. First of all, I finaly got around to coding the visual waypoints and objectives(www.illumina-game.com/index.php/mod/gallery/file/display/image/97?asc=&sort=i.ad...). I also modded Ben's commander map to render team waypoints, objectives, team players, and team vehicles. I still haven't figured out how to get world coordinates from screen coords. Our interior maker/mapper, TribalMa5ter, has been whipping out some sweet .dts models for the new build. Hes made an awsome commander station, generators, health terminals, and doors(the collision mesh moves).

We also have a working Conquest gametype for starters(Team Death Match is next). Bases have different capture times and point values. Capturing an objective doesn't give you a chunk of points; Illumina uses a point tug-of-war like system. The actual team scores are calculated via a ticket counter loop every 5 seconds. If your team's total captured objective score divided by the number of captured objectives is more than the other team, your team will gain points, and the other will loose the same amount.

Thats about it for now, check out our site and register on the forums if your interested in Illumina. The Beta will be out soon, but we'll post a DSOTD when it is.

By the way, I whipped together a little teaser for your enjoyment.

Edit: I had to make an interact key to operate doors and stations. I noticed that the interact key resource isn't in the database anymore(I couldn't find it), does anyone want me to make my version into a resource?

You probably dont want to do a loop where one team gains while the other one loses. Its definitely harder to get back from losing than it is to stop winning. So think about how you can make the other team get back to winning rather than penalize them doubly by deducting points while the other team gains.

Just my one penny.

Thanks for your concern. The only ways to win are by getting the other team's score to 0, or by eliminating the other team when they can't respawn(automaticly puts thier score at 0). Thats why the loop takes points away from the other team. The points that are given/taken aren't very much, and I think it works rather well. However, it hasn't been play tested, so you never know.

About the interact Key yes Please do Josh. if that works for doors can it also work for platforms.

Man what i wouldn't give to work on a project like that. My code and that art would be a wonderful thing ;-) If you ever need another scriptor to help you move things along, send me a mail, you'll get the best that I've got to give.

Did I mention I have 6 fully functional gametypes already programmed?(shameless hint)
Need some AI?(shameless begging coming soon, lol)

Seriously though, no matter what you do, you guys are definately doing some awesome work. Keep it up, I look forward to seeing this one completed.

Thank you for the good comments. It's nice to know that people are interested in Illumina.

Gonzo, if you would like to help out, email Ian Roach the project leader. Heres the GG project page. www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=project&page=view.project&qid=1904 Can you do any player animation? We are in dire need of an animator.

Since MGM shut down your attemtp to create a StarGate Game what do you thing the chances are that these guys will get away with it?

http://www.stargatetls.com/

Found this today courtesty of GameSpy News which claims they are making a mod based on Halflife. Seems a bit odd.

Who knows.

I still know of some old quake 3 stargate mods still running. MGM seem to be very inconsistant with who they shutdown.

But with a new official game coming soon i would imagine they might be on the aggressive again.

Mind you we were a standalone game which is probably what hurt us more then your usual mod.
