Plan for Greg Findlay

So it's been quite a while since my last .plan and I suppose there could be a lot to post about but most of it isn't game releated so I'll keep it almost all to game releated things.
Checkmate version 1 has been released and entered into the MSU contest.
I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed on how the MSU contest was run. There are some mods winning that really aren't fun but have a decent amount of content. It really seems like Epic is going for content first and gameplay second. That being said there are some really cool mods out there (besides Checkmate of course) that are deserving of winning. The biggest problem I've had with MSU though is that they really weren't prepared to run the contest. Their website doesn't get updated when events actually happen and they kept changing the dates of the contest deadlines. The worst thing though was they never post a time for when to submit your mod by on the deadline date, they just assumed everyone would be running on their time so 6:00pm EST was the time to have your mod submitted by. Three of our team members work during the day and live on the west coast in PST. So at 5:00pm PST when we went to submit it (on the date epic listed as being the last day for submission) their website said that entries were closed. Brilliant Epic, brilliant.
I am thankful that they are running the contest though and even though I don't think Checkmate will win it was nice to have a deadline to shoot for and have everyone working to get Checkmate done on time. All in all I think Checkmate is a fun mod and we've got some really possitive feedback from people. If you're interesting in learning more about it you can go to our website (www.unnaturalgaming.com/checkmate).
The other big project I've been working on is TradeBug, a website were you buy, sell, and trade pretty much anything. It's only been up and running for a couple of months now and some really cool things are starting to happen. There was an idea thrown around about being able to trade ignition keys for various games here at GG but we haven't contacted GG about it yet. We're still pretty small time and since the focus of our website isn't strictly games I'm not sure it would really be in GarageGames best interests to get a booth at TradeBug. Hopefully sometime in the near future it will be though.

It would definitely be possible to bring it over to TSE but I think the team is a little burnt out right now. I think our next project is going to be something bigger. Maybe even a retail product although right now it looks like its going to be another mod. I've been trying to convince the team that using Torque would be a good idea but I don't think they really want to shell out money to buy the engine. Would be cool to make something with TSE though.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Didn't realize that they had reviewed it. Would be interesting to hear what they thought of it. why make you a mod, when you can make a game ?I think Checkmate is really cool, lets port it under TSE and release it ! :)

Torque Owner Vernon Finch
Have you thought about porting it to an engine (perhaps TSE in the future)? Or does it rely on IP from Unreal?
