Plan for Benjamin Bradley

After having all the different catastrophes and adventures driving from Miami to Oregon, it was a big relief to finally arrive and start work. My working at GarageGames almost caused an inner family feud this past week. A distant relative heard through the grape vine that I had left my job in Miami to take a job in the gaming industry. She was convinced that I had signed a pact with the Devil and was engaging in mass debauchery in Las Vegas as a Blackjack dealer. (Man, what kind of movies does she watch.) Anyway, when it was clarified to her that the "gaming industry" was actually me working as the Public Relations and Marketing Guy at a computer "game" company, the family rift was rectified. Ah, a day in the life of a PR/Marketing Guy.... We're constantly accused of living in debauchery.... (well that's another .plan)
Anyway, I wish you all could see what I've got on my To-Do List. There are so many cool things going on around here that as my list grows longer and longer, I get more and more excited to be working with these bunch of guys at GG. My first two weeks were awesome as we watched Apple announce that Marble Blast Gold was being bundled with every new iMac G5. We got tons of new documentation added for Torque, thanks to Josh and his crew. We now even have a Marketing office here at GG (and it consists of more than just Jay's desk and coffee mug.) Plus we're continuing to work on IndieGamesCon'04. I've been working on writing up some of the session overviews for each of the tracks and if you haven't signed up for IGC'04, this is one you are not going to want to miss. This year we have so many really interesting tracks and breakout sessions that as I'm staring at the big whiteboard in the office where I've put the matrix of who is speaking where and when, I find myself wanting to support cloning so that I can be in more than one place at a time. (By the way, I wouldn't be a marketing guy if I didn't remind everyone that next week the price for IGC goes up, so get over there and register for the cheaper price)
Over the next few weeks, and especially during IGC, I hope to get to know more about many of you guys (and gals) who are currently developing games and those of you who are thinking about it. Some of my background is from the mod community and now that I've been spending a bit of time with Torque it really makes sense to make your own game rather than just a mod. Till next time, when I'll bring you inside the day-in-the-life of a Public Relations and Marketing Guy.

On a lighter note I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your time in Eugene Ben, looking forward to meeting you at IGC.

I don't see whats so wrong with the 'other' gaming industry (aka the Gambling industry). It employs me during the day, developing games and graphics for interactive touch LCD computer systems that are used in the halls. There is certainly no 'evil' or 'diabolical' nature about it and if anything I have found it to be an excellent experiance and the industry itself is highly regulated and socially and morally aware of what they are doing and the very fine line that they need to walk.On a lighter note I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your time in Eugene Ben, looking forward to meeting you at IGC.

Your post is encouraging because I am a newbie and to hear that you have gotten hired here is really great. I love computers and trying to make games will be welcomed challenge for me, and I hope to one day be a part of GG to assist or encourage others while I venture game making.Good luck with this new position!
