Plan for Rick Overman

Guess what just just made its way to the top of my stack after a painfully long wait? Fulltext body and title searching in the forums. Now please be gentle on my server, these searches can still be cpu killers but after employing a hack or two it actually works reasonably well.
Here are a few tips:
It only searches for words 4+ characters long.
Common search engine stop words are filtered.
By default all searches search both the title and body now.
'fruit salad'
Finds threads that contain both words.
'+apple -macintosh'
Finds threads that contain the word ''apple'' but not ''macintosh''.
'apple*'
Finds threads that contain words such as ''apple'', ''apples'', ''applesauce'', or ''applet''.

One thing I love about the people here is that they really care about their customers and indies in general. So, given the large cries recently for forum searching, Rick and Jeff decided to try to make it happen, even though it's painful.
Rick is clearly a genius for getting this to work. Sorry to anyone on the forums who I recently told that this wouldn't be happening any time soon. We'd talked and thought about it at length before, and Rick's synopsis was that it was just plain not feasible in the near future. But he figured out some voodoo code or something. :)
Hopefully this actually works out well and won't cripple the site, now that people know about it.
Anyway, woohoo! This will be very helpful for me personally, and everyone else too I'm sure.
Great job Rick!
Now, hopefully we don't see complaints about searches giving too much info to sort through. The forums are huge and full-text search = lots of results, in many cases.

oh friggin sweet! I remember the day i was confused when it was turned off.. THANK YOU! and if it becomes too much for the server, I know that me and a few others would gladly be willing to wait a while for a full text search. THANK YOU!!!

Ok... now I don't have the excuse of saying I can't remember where I read that post... and if we see too many posts being made on questions from 2001 we may have to weed some ancient threads.

Rick gets full forum searches working, Paul Dana has his 39th Birthday and becomes an Associate the same day... coincidence or conspiracy?Ok... now I don't have the excuse of saying I can't remember where I read that post... and if we see too many posts being made on questions from 2001 we may have to weed some ancient threads.
