The cost of a backup

I've been kinda heads down for the last two weeks working on a contract. Things were going fairly well until Sunday night when my new laptop's hard drive crashed. I had been working non-stop on the code and hadn't taken the time to back it up anywhere else (I had thought about it the night before but put it off).
I worked all day Monday to try recover my data but it was to no avail. The drive itself was physically broken and unreadable by any conventional means. I decided that it would be quicker to just redo the code (far faster to implement something you know than to invent it the first time =). I have almost gotten it back up to speed and as an added benefit the code is far cleaner this go 'round =)
Here is a little screenshot of the work I am doing:

A fun little Activex control that shares a lot in common with certain interior editors...one can imagine the possibilities ;)
I am ready to get back to my other projects. Got some cool stuff coming up =)

I couldn't agree more =) I just get lazy on how often I back up when I am pushing hard...

At least the code is cleaner and faster now ;)

Ya, I had that happen a while ago, had been working on my game for about a month and was really getting close to a first alpha and when I got up in the morning to finish what I was working on, the drive was toast. :(At least the code is cleaner and faster now ;)

I just recently lost some data too. Or, I think I did. :) I am usually *very* careful about backing up as well... but got lazy this week. And of course, that's when crap happens.
Anyway, glad you're back up and running.

Hah, hah, hah.. I just saved over the wrong art file about 20 minutes after thinking: "Gee, I should quick put this batch into Subversion". Lost a bit of work... of course, I was in a hurry to get this done and so didn't want to take the time. Gee whiz, just when I thought I was really cool too.
