Plan for Edward Gardner

So I got interviewed by Sean and Omaha over at the Gamesome Mac last night (http://www.macradio.com).
I had done the show once before, just after IGC, sorta a prelude to Lore, and they invited me back last night to talk about things now that Lore is released.
We have had such strong support from the Mac community. From the press, to 3rd part hardware manufacturers, to Apple, to the Mac owners themselves.
I doubt we would have been able to make a Mac compatible game without TGE. Sure, we have some lingering compatibility issues, and the installer was a bitch, but no more so that the PC issues. I had done cross platform development before, but this time, it just wasn't as hard. Not "easy" but, OSX is pretty spiffy to work with, and the TGE is just waiting to be fired up on a Mac.
Lemme talk about the support we got though.
First, we had some great Mac developers, we got playable early, and while it wasn't smooth, we ended up with some good stuff. Mike Gesner and Mark Grob are names you should scribble down somewhere.
Second, Apple Computer. Yeah, those guys. Richard Hernandez has been an absolute rock star. He helped us with getting equipment and discounts on gear, they put together a VERY cool trailer mini site on apple.com (http://www.apple.com/games/trailers/ right next to Call of Duty), and he scored us some free E3 passes. I defintely owe this guy a beer.
ATI, Chris Benson. Hooked us up with free video cards (for both Mac and PC) for testing and development. There's another beer out there with his name on it.
The "Press." Too numerable to mention. Mac Radio, Inside Mac Games, Mac Gamer, Mac World (please don't feel bad if I missed you, I am still drinking coffee), the list goes on. These guys have been fantastic. The pick up our releases and report on them. Press that cares about the games and the gamers.
Finally, the gamers. We had some fantastic testers, real professionals who cared (still care) about the quality of the game. Early adopters who are helpping us make Lore even better. People who say things like this:
"I think what you guys have done with DH-L is truely great and applaud the efforts that have gone into the game thus far. I do my best to spread the word and today arrived in Cincinnati for a short business trip and am getting the word out here by showing off the game to a number of my local contacts. I truely believe that this game will grow nicely and am behind you guys 100%."
It's just been a really cool experience.

And I have to second that Rich Hernandez at Apple is an incredible friend to independent game developers, GarageGames and is one of the really good guys.
I hope all of our developers with commercial aspirations can learn along with Max Gaming as they launch a truely big dream and move the game forward to its full potential. We'll definately be hearing from them at IGC in Oct.

GarageGames in partnership with Lindows had the Games Arcade last week at the Desktop Linux Summit and the response to playing Dark Horizons: Lore was nothing short of phonomenal - I will not do this event again without CD's to sell. Congrats on a launching on two platforms at once with the third only weeks behind. Yeah, Apple has been fantastic. Years ago, Apple had something of a love/hate realtionship with their developers. Nowadays, well, these guys bent over backwards to help us. So, it's all love/love :)

I made a SDL platform layer for our stuff and it was quite painless to get running on OSX. SDL rocks, I am afraid to say a bit more than XCode :(
