Plan for Joe Maruschak

BraveTree Productions is proud to announce the release of its Torque powered BraveTree Content Packs. Starting with the Tree Pack Pro and continuing in the weeks to come with an array of other content packs, BraveTree will offer a wide variety of art content for your games. These packs contain shapes designed specifically to work with the Torque engine and are produced by experienced game developers who have shipped several products with this technology prior to it becoming the Torque Game Engine.

Here are some compelling reasons to purchase content packs:

* You can experiment with a set of "widgets" that are beyond what is included in the Torque Demo Application.

* You can quickly prototype your idea, solving the "chicken and egg" problem of needing to attract team members in order to build a product that is good enough to "attract team members."

* It gives developers access to commonly used items for a reasonable cost.

* It frees artists up to make game specific content, rather than spend time making commonly used items.

* The developers who have created the shapes have experience with real time games, they are guaranteed to work, and they are of the highest quality.

* The cost of the shape is reasonable considering how much time you would have to spend to create the shape and/or contract the shape out to an artist.

* These shapes have been expertly tuned to work with the Torque Game Engine.

Oh, and if you haven't checked out Clark's .plan, you should, it is a good one.

Rock on...

One question, is it ok to ship the DTS files with a game or demo?

The EULA is our protection to make sure that one person does not give the models away to the world. The DTS files and textures can be shipped with a game or demo as long as the license is preserved (i.e. the end user of the game or demo cannot redistribute or reuse the models in their own project).

We want to be as flexible as we can be to help people make games.

Very remarkable. Way to go guys. :) Will you be doing other environmental foilage as well, say Desert, Jungle, etc Content Packs?

@Tyler,

If the sales of the packs bring in enough to cover the costs of producing them, we will do more packs with different themes and looks.

Info button doesn't mention if these shapes contain LOD or not. If they do, I'll be buying them...

Cool. Thanks Joe.

Erik, I think "These shapes have been expertly tuned to work with the Torque Game Engine" covers that.

@Erik - they do contain detail levels: "These shapes have been expertly tuned to work with the Torque Game Engine (each tree includes detail levels and collision shapes)." Cheers.

Joe, have you done any testing on these for frame rates? My experience with Torque so far has been that the frame rate drops drastically if say you have 15 NPC's all within view at the same time. Does this problem exist with these models too? That is, am I going to get a 5fps rate if I have 30 of your trees on screen at once? FYI, we are currently working on an RTS game so most likely the lower LOD's would be called.

@ Jeff,

No quick answer, as it depends on the machine. I did some screenshots that may help answer your question though- click on the image to see the full size version.

The max files are included , so you can make the details more agressive if you so desire.

These shots were taken on a p3 1000mhz with a geforce ti 4400 at 1024x768 with the AntiAliasing cranked.

What other Content Packs is Brave Tree planning on releasing? Just currious...

@Davis

We hope to relase the barrels and crates above, a pack of rocks with a bunch of different textures (with some grass clumps), a terrain set, a car with scripts, a flyer with scripts, a jetbike with scripts, and a tank model with scripts to set it up as a player. I am also working on a player character (the bunny that is in the IOTD I submitted a while ago).

If these packs sell well enough to justify doing more, we plan to do more, and hopefully we will have enough community feedback to let us know where to direct our efforts.
