Plan for J. Donavan Stanley

I've been a software developer for what feels like forever, even though it's only been about 10 years. All through my career I've talked about making games, as have many of my co-workers. Several weeks ago I finally stopped talking about it and started a game project.

I decided, early on, that trying to put together all of the pieces needed to complete a commercial game was beyond my current capabilities. So it was decided that instead of trying to put together a game right off the bat we would put together a suite of tools and technologies to enable others to develop games.

All of our work will be freely available to the community. Anything that is directly related to the TGE will be made available only to TGE licensees, while some of the more generic items will be available under an open source license.

Eventually, we plan to release a complete game engine that implements the core of the "D20" ruleset from Wizards of the Coast. The goal is to allow a team of artists, writers and scripters (i.e. your typical mod team) to put together a multi-player D20 based persistent world.

This evening I'll be sitting down for a face-to-face meeting with a couple of my developers to go over various design and architecture issues and begin the process of chunking up the workload into achievable units.

GarageGames welcomes new game engine development. I look forward to hearing more about your ambitious project as it progresses. Can you offer a pronunciation key for the name?

I guess the best way to explain the pronounciation would me GORE-pah just like you would say the "thorpe" part of of Mapplethorpe.
