Wow, what a fun weekend! The IGC was an absolute blast. Good conversation, cool games, and great food. Kudos to the GG crew for organizing the event.

Also, I'd like to thank those of you who attended my 3D character animation session. It's unfortunate that I ran out of time and didn't actually get to the animation portion, but I think I threw enough rigging and setup information at you guys to keep you busy for a while. If you guys have any questions, please feel free to contact me online. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

OK, now that I've sobered up, it's time to get back to teaching. :)

Danny,

Very much enjoyed your talk on character animation. Appreciate your willingness to share your tips/techniques. Just wanted to let you know that it was worth the entire IGC admission, just for your session alone.

Thanks again.

Something I should've asked at the time, but didn't think of till later - The 3 bone forearm looks pretty sweet, but adds 4 bones to the total bone count. How expensive is that in terms of the model's efficiency in the engine? And if it's cheap, my next thought is to add another bone for the muscle mass on the forearm, to depict the shift of the mass as the arm rolls. Just a thought. I also enjoyed your talk very much. You should teach.

AFAIK, it doesn't affect the model's efficiency at all. Naturally, that depends greatly on the engine you're using. But, as far as the Torque goes, I haven't noticed any negative effects. Having the extra bones in the forearm is no different than adding extra nodes throughout the rig for code-based control. So, you could feasibly add another bone to control the forearm muscle mass.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the presentation. I think I'll give that teaching thing a shot. :P
