We will be bringing a early alpha version of Critical Subterfuge: Arena to the Independent Developers Con on November first so thought I would give out a little fact sheet about the game.
We dont plan on having full character creation in the alpha version we are bring, but still should be a load of fun to play.
CRITICAL SUBTERFUGE: ARENA
Critical Subterfuge: Arena is a First Person Shooter with a splash of role-playing. In addition to fighting it out in the arena, players will have full control of character design (including base statistics, weapons inventories, cyber genetic implants, and match bookings). Online titles similar to this include Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament. We believe that Critical Subterfuge: Arena brings a new level of player interaction to the genre. Customizable characters with personality, unique combinations of abilities, integrated competitive play (not merely rankings on a third party website), and integrated team play bring a new spin to the standard Deathmatch dominated game world. It's more than Unreal Tournament 2003. The characters that people create have personality unique to the player controlling them.
Arena is conceived as the first step in a 3 part series of games, culminating in a MMORPG set in the Critical Subterfuge Universe called Critical Subterfuge: Awakening. In this first release of the Critical Subterfuge series, athletes of the 22nd century meet in mortal combat in the Arena, fighting not for honor, but the almighty credit. It brings together WWE flamboyance, online competition, the persistence of a Blizzard Entertainment title (ala Diablo II on Battle.net), furious FPS action similar to the Unreal and Quake series, all with a Japanese Anime and gritty cyberpunk artistic influence.
Arena Features:
· Three character classes
· 24 arenas
· 6 different armor types
· 22 types of projectile, energy and melee weapons
· 20 different physiological enhancements, made through purchase of cybergenetic implants and body part replacements.
· Fully customizable characters, that change throughout their careers
· Character persistence
· Online solo "versus" mode or 8 player team action
· Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Objective and Deathmatch game types
· Optional non-competitive online combat and offline bot-play
· Dedicated Servers option (for fun, non competitive play)(special gameplay types will also be available in dedicated server matches)
· Integrated competition and community
Critical Subterfuge: Arena is geared toward those thirsting for heart pounding multi-player action in a competitive environment. The sports fan in us all should love the atmosphere and competitive nature of this game.
