Plan for Bryan Buschmann

Ahhhh!!!! *breath* Ok, as a designer, I find the "end of the world" to be an atrocity. Not because everyone's going to die or suffer for all eternity or anything like that. The entire reason is because it's no longer anywhere close to interesting. Yay, the world's going to end, lets all be movitated to stop it. NO! Screw that. Give me a love story. Give me an interesting character. Give me the story of a man's honor demanding him to repay a debt. Give me something that I can sink my teeth into and go "Sweet! I love that character, he's so diabolical! I never really thought he'd hang that 4 year old out the window by his tongue!" We've all seen the end of the world and most likely we've all stopped it one or two times already. I'm tired of saving the world.
Think harder. Come up with deception, plot twists, enigmas, or just sow confusion in the heart of the player long enough to get them interested. The end of the world is worth nothing at this point....
I pose this challenge to anyone who would consider themselves a designer: Write a story that is intiguing, involving, and emotional and use concepts from every day life. No gods personally smiting someone, no nuclear weapons, no megalomaniacs bent on world domination. It's possible and I can garuntee that the output of such a challenge will make the end of the world seem like a broken shoelace.
Thank you. The soapbox is now open. Have a nice day.

Beats sitting in front of computer games bemoaning how sick one is of the world coming apart.
The real world does need a hand.

...then why not go out into the real world and volunteer some time helping a worthy cause of your choice?Beats sitting in front of computer games bemoaning how sick one is of the world coming apart.

*smile* Because I like video games more than the real world.

Keep your eyes on Children of Mars, by Protean Entertainment. The story right now doesn't seem especially inspired (though it's a bit more interesting than the end of the world), but we have some fun character developments and crazy plot twists in the actual game.-Evan
