Our project has gotten a working name: Warriors of Ki. Unlikelly to be the final name, but we needed a working title, so there it is. The basic working story so far is this:

There is an energy that all life feeds off of, and that force that binds our world together, called Ki. Some humans are born with the ability to tap into this energy source, which gives them extraordinary abilities. Many of these humans have become kings, some have been messiahs, and some have been called Gods. They are the Chosen; a rare few that were born few and far between... until now.
Normally chosen are born centuries apart, so no Chosen has been alive long enough to encounter another. But something has changed. As the result of heavy industrialization the planet?s Ki has begun to shift. This has caused an abnormal amount of Chosen to be born during the past hundred years. Bathala was the first of this sudden explosion of super humans and used his power to take over the Nation of Quan. He crowned himself King Bathala and used his powers to enslave the neighboring nations and peoples to expand his kingdom.
Azrael was born in a small slave village on the far outskirts of Bathala's kingdom. Azrael was a Chosen. The boy showed exceptional strength and ability, he could do the whole village's work for the day in minutes. He grew into a strong teenager and by that time rumors of his strength had reached Bathala. Feeling his power threatened, Bathala decided to kill the boy. Bathala killed everyone in the village and had Azrael stabbed in the heart however Azrael did not die. Months passed and King Bathala went about his life. Three years later Azrael returned for revenge. Their battle devastated the kingdom. In the end Azrael killed Bathala. After killing Bathala, Azrael felt stronger; more powerful. He was twice as fast; twice as strong. He absorbed Bathala's powers. Realizing this, Azrael searched the world for other Chosen to kill in order to increase his own power. He found others and killed them all, and now only a few Chosen are left. He is searching for them and when he finds them, he will kill them in order to wield the ultimate power, in order to become a god.

We're aiming to have eight characters. This far, we've made story and descriptions of a few (I'll upload concept art later this week)

Azrael (villain)
An extremely strong willed and determined individual. He cares for one thing: power. He has a large scare left over from the time Bathala stabbed his heard. This scar also represents the emotional scars he received early in his life by watching his family mutilated by Bathala. He feels extreme guilt for the death of his family, but never shows it. His temper is extremely volatile and does not feel remorse for his actions.
1. Height - 6'3"
2. Weight - 225
3. Age - 31
4. Hair - Silver
5. Type - Male Human

Mina (villan)
Mina is also a Chosen. She is in love with Azrael, but he does not love her back. She is quiet and psychotic, mostly because she believes that is what Azrael desires.
1. Height - 5'8"
2. Weight - 115
3. Age - Unknown
4. Hair - Purple
5. Type - Female Human

Meiko Shinseki (heroine)
Meiko was born in a rural area. Very early on she showed abilities far beyond those of any normal person. She was sent to train in the warrior arts shortly after her gift was identified. By the age of twelve she had surpassed most living warriors. Unfortunately, her mind tends to wander at times. She is by any measure an exceptional warrior, but her heart isn?t in it often. Quite often she?d rather be in a city somewhere having fun. She has no idea many cities lie in ruins. At the age of 17, the fortress she trained at was attacked. The battle was brief, but brutal. At the end, only Meiko was left standing. She finally was free to leave. Meiko set out into the wilderness in search of whoever was responsible for the attack on her home.
1. Height - 5'
2. Weight - 98
3. Age - 17
4. Hair - black/brown
5. Type - Female Human

That's all for now, we'll have more character details worked out later this week, I'll upload some concept art soon too. (our site'll be done Friday, it'll all be there).

Meh, I think I have heard this story or something like it serveral times before.

PS: Azrael seems to be a generic name these days.

Where besides Gargamel's cat on Smurfs is Azrael used? (not doubting you, just genuinelly curious.) As for the story, it's obviously incomplete (and seems to take a lot from an awful movie, The One). It doesn't seek to be great literature, it does however seek to explain how one side of the plot goes (no protagonists in the main plotline really yet) and it seeks to give at least some reason why all these people are flying around shooting energy beams at each other. It's not Shakespeare, but then, in an FPS it's not usually the backstory that's what players pay attention to, is it?

Azrael is the name for the Judeo-Christian angel of death. It's also the name of a popular DC comics character, a heavy metal band, and the villan of the Kevin Smith film 'Dogma.'

Thank you, Mark. But as he mentioned, it was the angel of death and therefore used way too often lately.

I believe it was also used in a cancelled FPS that had an angel in it, I could be wrong.

All right, so what names would fit better for this? If there's interest I'll put up the unfinished characters here too so people can make suggestions on them and how to fit them into the main story (the main protagonist is still very vague, to the point that if we wanted, different characters could become the main protagonist.)
