I have been in the computer business for about 12 years. I did mostly system administration but I have recently become disabled. So I am rebuilding myself as a programmer, game programmer to be exact. I started on Atari 400 and Commodore 64 with some basic programming as it had no real OS. Then when IBM pc's came out it changed my life basically. I took my hobby , computers, and quit the auto parts technician job to start selling computers for Bizmart. Then in 1992 I got a job as Computer Resources Administrator for Computer Sciences Corporation at Brooks AFB Texas. After working for the Air Forces Armstrong Laboratory and also support a small Army research facility on base, I took a position as Senior UNIX Administrator for Motorola in Austin. This was contract work for the Advanced Semiconductor Interconnection Labs. There I had a great deal of exposure and experiance with MCAD tool's such as ANSYS and CADENCE. I attended IC design classes at CADENCE and am a certified basic IC designer.
I then took a position as Senior UNIX Administrator for Computer Data Systems Inc. at Randolf AFB Texas. My main job there was test and evaluation of UNIX hardware and OS as well as testing Oracle 7 and 8. I tested the first prototype HP Advanced PA-RISK microprocessors for use in a y2k personnel systems modernization program for the entire Department of Defense. I was also task leader for Resumix project for adding digital resume processing to the entire Department of Defense. I then accepted a position working directly for the government at the Administrative Office of the United States Courts as a Computer Specialist. There I have worked with various hardware, software and support of our in house developers and database administators. Running the visual source safe for the organization. But this is where we come to today, I have become disabled due to a couple of spinal diseases. So I intend to become a programmer, I am giving myself about 3 years for the transition. Torque and garagegames is a great start.
Well that's the short version of my professional job experiance.
Laters.
