Plan for Daniel Kay

by Daniel Kay · 04/09/2002 (6:17 am) · 5 comments

We recently recieved a job application for the position of Lead Programmer. I shall not give the candidate's name, as I suppose it wouldn't really be fair considering the content of this .plan...
The candidate's Resume was extremely colourful - previous employment details listed none other than LithTech, Inc. and Synaptic Soup, Ltd. and after he asked us to purchase a license to the Torque Game Engine for him I because somewhat wary. I decided to look into these stated employment details. I sent emails to representatives of both LithTech and Synaptic Soup, and recieved the following replies:

[Candidate] has never worked for Synaptic Soup. However, in August 2001 he did take out an evaluation version of our Cipher engine.

Neither company [LithTech, Inc. or Monolith Productions, Inc.] has ever employed anyone by the name of [Candidate].

I suppose I did right to check these out, eh? :/

This should go as a warning to all Independant GarageGames developers - Check out those previous employers!

For our project, as we are all working on a volunteer basis, I always ask coder to buy himself a license of Torque as I cannot afford to spend 100$ for each coder : sad but true.

Consider only those that are willing to buy license them selfs or already are Torque owners ;)

Yep - I explained to him that we wouldn't be able to purchase a license for him due to our independant developer status and the inherent lack of funds that comes therewith, but never recieved a reply regarding that... hrm... *strokes chin* ^_^
