Plan for Pascal "decoy" Bos

HA an other plan. Yup, yup it’s that time again. As promised I’m back to throw some good old stupidity at ya….
Sweetness, I got my new comp the other week, it’s truly a big improvement over my old one it works so easy. The thing that strikes me as very strange was the huge amount of interest I got from several people about the specs of my new system. Comps are becoming more and more status symbols that reflect the coolness, capabilities and wealth of their owners. It was only a few years ago that comps where associated with skinny, socially disturbed teenagers wearing glasses, preferably with strange not so cool names… These day’s big specs comps are owned by the cool guys or at least that is what people presume. The whole gaming biz has turned everything around. It’s bad ass gamers with names like WTF-DEATH, SMD-DarkDOOM04 and 1313IwillSHootYourf***ingheadOFF, with a FPS (frags per second) of 145 and of cause the game developers, artists and programmers alike, that make “big” money who own the fat comps and who are gradually becoming role models and hero’s for today’s teenagers. I find it unlikely but don’t totally ignore the idea of computers taking over the position of cars for being status symbol number one…. It’s already the one against the other bigger, better, faster specs all of the time. Comps have great potential in draining someone completely for all his/her money. Development is going faster and faster, buy a comp today and it will be outdated within 2 months, there is no winning this race..
Ok here is a nice idea I want you all to think about.
I use my computer a lot because it’s so slow and it takes ages for me to finish a project. Which justifies me buying a new expensive faster one, making me work faster, completing my stuff sooner, making me spent less time working with my comp, making it totally stupid that I spent that much money on something I don’t use that much……. Did that make sense?????
This little twist came to mind when I was thinking about the fact that I like creating stuff and all, so why the hell would I want to speed things up making me spent less time doing the things I want.. Well the answer came instantly… it’s all about time. Time is very limited for someone like me. I have a 60 hour work week bending paperclips and a have a very rich social life with all the doctors I meet during the week besides that, despite what everyone says, it truly is hell to clean my padded room once a month especially wearing my special white coat with extra long sleeves…
All bullshit aside I have just been thinking if a faster computer will help me to complete my projects faster. Personally I highly doubt it, fact is that I won’t work any faster the only time gained is during start up and the possibility to run several heavy programs at the same time but that’s about it. I must say that I will work easier though but I’m pretty sure it won’t be that much faster.
Which brings me to a few group question.
All these faster and better comps do we really need them or are we all just loony’s dance to the tune of the hype??????
What about graphics, are looks more important than gameplay???
And last but not least, when you are travelling at the speed of light, what will happen when you turn on your headlights????
Ohh damn almost forgot my plan…..
Ehh… working on zap, cooked up a nice little model for Scoot (the guy on the modelsheet Phill showed in snapshots section), doing some more concepts and still tweaking my system that’s about it…
Thanks for sharing these special moments with me hope you all will be here next time.
Later…..

i tried to tell myself that i would spend less time on a faster computer cause it could get things done quicker...boy was i wrong. i spent more time on it because i could do a lot more with a faster computer. same with broadband internet. i said i would spend less time online cause i could download things faster and load webpages quicker. now i just download more things and go to more websites cause i can, cause it's faster. oh well.
