Forester Pro version 1.18 Released

by Matthew Genge · 06/15/2013 (4:32 am) · 8 comments

Forester Pro is a 3D model tree generator for Torque3D that exports collada format models which import seamlessly into the world editor. Forester Pro trees include automatically generated LODs, collision meshes and vertex colours for wind effects. Forester models can also be posed and edited down to individual vertexes. The models are all compatible with the forest painter in the world editor.

We've just released version 1.18 of Forester Pro. The new version allows the axes in Forester Pro to be hidden, which together with user defined background colour, allows 2D sprites of models to be created using screenshots. 2D sprites could, for example, be needed for GUI elements and, of course, for 2D sprite games. This change was suggested by users.

Thanks Matthew! Always good to see new updates :) Look forward to more tree packs being added... more lower ground stuff would be cool.

Thanks for the update Matthew. Unfortunately. last version of Forester that I tried (demo), the LODs were all screwed up. Has that changed in recent updates?

Hi Dan,

I've just tested the last version 1.17 and the LODs seem to be generated fine and export to T3D as they should. What exactly was the problem? Was it generation or on export? Was it a particular model? Let me know and I will investigate ASAP.

Best,
Matt

Matt, I can't remember much detail (it was weeks ago) but the most obvious issue was with LOD01 reversing the roots of some trees so that they'd point toward the sky, rather than the ground. I was just trying it out that one time, though, so it may have been due to my lack of experience with the tools. Sorry I can't post more definitive info.

Roots pointing at the sky is not terribly realistic ;) I'll investigate and fix it if there is a problem in the next version.
