by Song Yongjin · 04/04/2013 (6:18 am) · 42 comments

hi~ :D

First, I want to send a compliment to the technical capabilities of T3D MIT.

my name is yong jin, song
3 years I have watched T3D.

I recently ported T3D to IOS and ANDRIOD.
There was a lot of code reWrite, but T3D was a big help.

Below is a video version of iPad.

* ios platform
* android ndk build
* tcp network for MMO

"There was a lot of code reWrite, but T3D was a big help."

@song,
depending on your busyness and reviewing those changes,how much time it could take to cleanup and submit that to github?
and sorry for asking that.
i cannot wait to test it.

and again thanks for your effort.

Your an inspiration, I have been trying to decide whether to write a game I want to write on T3D or write a game that could net me some money for the iPad/Android market..

When you release this I can do doth at the same time!

@Song Yongjin

How are things going with your game, did you release it yet?

Do you still plan to release your Android port for Torque? This is something that will be useful to many of us, lots of work there I am sure!

"I am polishing the game is having a busy time."

it is november so he is already behind of his schedule.
+as already mentioned that he is busy,so my commonsense says he is not going to spend precious time on code clean up for charity.
so we better stop nagging and try to find alternatives.

instead of waiting for someone i have started to work on android t3d port for myself .
but it is an ongoing process. can take 1/2 years.

so wait for someone and better start to deposit money in case of buying the port from someone.

So many ppl are missunderstanding opensource -
Quote:deposit money in case of buying the port from someone..

It is all good and fine with selling a 3rd party product that enables T3D to go mobile.
However the engine went opensrc and its jsut sad to see how many ppl expect to make money with engine side changes.

Regarding Song Yongjin`s port
if he finds time and wants to share his port
then he just might but asking about it wont change since a charity port was
not the driven motivator for him, no it was a game!

And that is actually why we all (at least i believe)
went with T3D, to make a game!? or is it really only about some dollars here and there?

That is a phenomen that you can actually follow back thru the whole Torque Engine History, if this behaviour stays then the engine is not going to be worth it.

"then he just might but asking about it wont change since a charity port was not the driven motivator for him, no it was a game!"

i am not saying that he is going to charge.my point is time.man works on hobby project when he have free time or when he need to test his work for more bugs and more contribution.

on my fee time i can do other entertaining things but instead of that if i do something for others then i can expect something in return. if that is a work of 500$ but i am giving away for 50$ as a community buyout then we can say yes that is a contribution.
and 50$ is not for payment that is encouragement.
which will encourage others as well to contribute.

i have heard from many about their contribution on open source project and their name into the credits.firefox is one of them.each contributor get his name in it's community forum.something like reputation system used in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/

but what is going on with t3d forum.
this forum even cannot handle threads and pages efficiently.i have seen people selling someone else's work by modifying.

but what someone is going to get for contributing to t3d. even those crowd funding is failing.
t3d needs some motivation on that side.

i am not going to name but we already have lost someone who could be an asset for t3d community.but forum was not able to contribute in his work nor was able to support him.

i have seen some golden guys who have left t3d after open sourcing and moved to other engine.this is heart breaking.

sorry if all of my thinking is wrong .but that is how i am observing current status of t3d.

"That is a phenomen that you can actually follow back thru the whole Torque Engine History,"

the scenery actually completely opposite.before open sourceing there were lots of activity on resource section.each month almost 2 or 3 resource was posted.but now what we see.on github there is only 5/6 active people.

and almost all of them are coders.no artist.
ron was different.otherwise participation from artists is almost zero.

android port is a must have feature for t3d.
otherwise it is going to be a tool for mmo,hobbyst's desktop game and for simulation.
u3d/ogre already have taken some of these places.

The ressource section is still being used, i just posted a ressource not that long ago.

At the end the commitee decides what to put in and what to leave out!

That just ended now, belive it or not
but this site and the commitee is not going to support t3d.

Android and the whole mobile market is not as easy as you might think.
There are already engines that are giving you the free license to produce/ develope/ create a game for mobile platforms without paying the engine developers.

One of those is Havoks Anarchy and if you think about this then you should realize what is happening. At the end it just doesnt matter what engine a studio/indie used - only the final game/ product matters!
