Gobbo Games - 2013 Update

Firstly let me wish you all a Happy and Prosperous 2013 from all of us here at Gobbo Games. We know that this is going to be a great year for us and we hope that you will join us all for the ride and see where the Indie Game Development Roller Coaster takes us ... it is going to be a blast.

The Pre-Alpha Release of H.A.Z. went a little pear shaped, but in the end we learnt a great deal from it and also identified some major concerns with the code base that we were using, after a long and frank discussion with DrDeth we have decided to pull the Pre-Alpha Release and do some major code re-factoring. DrDeth has stepped up and taken the lead on this process and once he is happy with the new code base and is comfortable with the release, we will do another Pre-Alpha Release. For more information, you can read my latest blog here.

The above decision is one of the reasons we prefer being an Indie Studio, it allows us to do what is best for Gobbo Games and H.A.Z. ... and although this will inevitably mean a delay ... it also means that we will deliver a more polished product in the end.

During December, a group of 8 friends got together and decided they wanted to test Re-Spawn for me ... so I dusted off the code, did a little re-factoring and within a day I had a workable demo game for them. The game was tweaked and fixed and balanced over the course of a week and the week thereafter was thoroughly play tested. Everyone had a good time and there were a lot of laughs and comments being passed around the group ... this led me to a little bit of a re-branding of Re-Spawn and the decision to move forward with a Pre-Alpha Release of the game ... coupled with an attempt to get some crowd funding for the project.

I have committed the next week to focus on Re-Spawn and get the Pre-Alpha ready for release, you can read the blog here and I am confident that by Monday the 14th January 2013, Re-Spawn Pre-Alpha will be available for public consumption ... and hopefully the crowd funding campaign will follow shortly thereafter.

The main focus for Gobbo Games for the next 6 months will be H.A.Z. and Re-Spawn, this includes the Alpha and Beta releases of both as well as all Game Stream integration that will need to happen. Once we are happy with all the releases and feel that we have workable games, we will then tackle the final release and all factors that go with that.

So please stay tuned, keep informed, and join us for what is going to be an awesome first half to 2013.

Quinton,

I have been watching your posts for quite a while. I am glad you made the choice to ship a finished product vs. an 'ok' product. Good job. You have very few chances to 'make something right' in this industry. Take the advantage as an indie. It's rare, and worth it.

Hey Quinton,

Your web site links are broken - looks like they aren't resolving without the www in the url
