It's been a very long time...

After learning game development with the Torque engine I was hired by a small studio to work on one of their games and then a number of other studios to do contract work and then finally hired by Somatic Vision who I have been working for for the last 5 and a half years.

Back in the day, here in the garage games community, I wrote a blog about how I had come to realize that my best place in games development was as a game director. I got a lot of well wishes, but mostly, I got a lot of eye rolls. The eye rolls were of the 'kids these days don't want to start at the bottom and work their way up, they want to start at the top and work their way sideways' variety.

Well, seven years later I am a game director and I still appreciate the well wishes and I completely understand the eye rolls. I did not start at the top. I started at the bottom and worked my way to, well, the bottom of the top. I don't director 50 million dollar games, but I do direct games with a budget and a team and it's a dream come true.

So, what am I doing here on garage games talking about this? I've been gone for years. Well, I've really just been busy for years. But I am here, in part to return to my old neighborhood to tell everyone that I made it, but also in part to ask you all for help getting over the finish line.

I am finishing up directing my first game that I designed for Somatic Vision. It's called Tropical Heat and it's a jet ski racing game. Today I submitted the game to Steam's Project Greenlight. Project Greenlight is Steam's new system for indie games to get thumbs up from the Steam user community to publish a game on Steam. I would like to ask for help from the garage games community getting my game over the top on Project Greenlight. If you are a Steam user, please, go to my page and look at my game and if you like it, give it a thumbs up.

Here is a link to the website for Tropical Heat, so you can see the screenshots and watch the videos and download the demo and play it and see if you think it's worth your vote. I would certainly appreciate it. If you are submitting to Project Greenlight, send me a message and I'll return the favor!

Well, it's 3:21 am and I have been busy trying to get support for Tropical Heat on Steam for the last 15 hours, so, I am going to call it a night. Hi to everyone who I used to know here at garage games!! Nice to meet everyone I don't know.

I up-voted your game as it looks very unique and fun.

Congrats on pursuing your dreams and goals and not listening to the peanut gallery. There are watchers and doers. Good job on deciding to be a doer.

Now that you have achieved your goal, set another one. Otherwise it is a start of decline. Upwards and onwards!

Keeps the blogs coming too! Your perspective will be good for everyone.
