Neglect, Introductions and putting a plan in writing

Hi, I'm Patrick a hobbyist musician and professional print designer.

I've sort of been lurking around the torque community for years. It seems like every time I try to take a serious stab at torque, life seems to get in the way...work, girlfriend...a million little projects. Yesterday I decided to brush the dust off of torque3d software and maybe upgrade (Mac versions haven't come quite as far as I wished they had but that's another topic for an angrier blog :) ) .

I've been using 3d programs since 3d studio wasn't max and came bundled with animator pro, phong shading was still a slow process for a finished render, and the only UV textures were when the beige plastic of your crt monitor yellowed in the sun (1995!!!) So much of the ideas/concepts of 3d are second nature to me at this point it's just getting my head around the scripting and I've been designing websites, scripting javascript and max/msp based audio applications for 12 years...so I should be able to hack it.

I'm writing this to document that as of now I'm working in whatever is the latest mac version and finishing a game the way they did when I was a child...One man in a room for a long time; the way I've finished every music or design project I've ever taken on...just jump in, figure it out, and make something. I'll never get anywhere lurking and waiting.

Kory Imaginism: thank you. I might take you up on it...I've just got a few things I need to get the hang of first.

Dan Webb: thank you. I'd forget to breathe before I forget to eat...I'm heating up lentils right now. :)

We wish you luck Patrick. Make sure you have fun while you are doing this. Celebrate each advancement, no matter how small. Learn from the mistakes, don't let them beat you.

@Michael,
Great words of encouragement!

@Patrick,
Michael is right. When taking on new things I am lack for a better word, scared of taking it on. I am not sure what it is about doing new things, but it can be daunting. Like Nike says, "Just Do It".

Oh crap, I forgot to eat!

There's something about the way I'm wired that makes me love that feeling...I like being lost. Maybe that's why I like art...no maps for these territories. In my day job, I take on all kinds of projects I don't know how to do. I'm a designer with a music engineering degree...all my training is in the field.

thanks Michael, I'll try to start with stuff I have the hardest time with...that way there will be bigger things and more stuff to celebrate when I get to the parts I do (mainly sound programming).
