Greetings everyone! Welcome to the first entry of the iTorque 2D v1.5 release series. The previews are over and we have entered private testing. Our internal QA team is already working on their first pass, while our private testers will be getting their hands on a build later this week. The goal of this series is start generating excitement and spread the word of the imminent 1.5 release. This entry will recap the work that has gone into 1.5 (that you know of). Previews 1 and 2 were greeted with much praise, so it's worth covering what they introduced.

Game Center

The following core features are supported as of v1.5 Preview 1:

  • Player authentication
  • Achievement tracking
  • Scoring and leaderboards
  • Viewing built-in displays for Achievements and Leaderboards

All of the features are exposed to TorqueScript, giving you the option to work in your language of choice. The C++ and Objective-C code has been thoroughly commented and documented.

Improved Motion Controls

Full motion control programming at your fingertips. The new and improved motion system for 1.5 features:

  • Full gyroscope support
  • Accelerometer data now includes gravity
  • ActionMap system allows for simple, one line bindings to the motion devices
  • Full control over starting, updating and stopping of motion controls
  • Can be bound to behavior system, making it artist and designer friendly

You may not always use motion controls, but when you do it will all be available (no limitations).

Enhanced Multitouch

Touch support in iTorque 2D has been enhanced dramatically. The improved touch system provides the flexibility and power required for any app you can design:

  • Per-object touch reaction in as little as four lines of code
  • New drag behavior with every project. 1 click of the mouse from the editor enables object dragging
  • Modular system allows you to have different multitouch schemes
  • Toggle entire touch reaction systems at will, eliminating the need for monolithic logic statements

Next Entry

The next blog will discuss the BIG feature added to iTorque 2D 1.5. Help us spread the word and drum up some excitement for this series. I'm sure more will want to read next week's unveiling of Universal App Support (one level, ALL devices)!

GameCenter integration easymode! Neat behaviours out of the box! Great control options! New users should have an easy time with 1.5 :)

Looking forward to the universal features. Then we can start whining about 1.6 features, right?

This looks great and so does the T3D stuff posted earlier, but to be honest I'm really getting antsy about T2D (the only product I actively use)... can you guys post anything about it or is it too hush hush top secret sort of stuff!? :)

It would be interesting if my Torque Script Interactive Tutorial 2 software could help the documentation efforts of Torque 2D and iTorque2D. Just a thought.
