Hi everybody!

I hope you are all doing well in your projects. I will take this moment from your life to propose an idea and show some advancements in Warscale.

The fist news is that I'm now the proud owner of the Warscale and Spritekin logos... for the next ten years at least.

So now that I have the logo I have a question for you. Would you be interested in using the Warscale mythology as a base point for your games, free of charge?

Warscale world and mythos

Let me give you the idea... Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons, Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Narnia, Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft, Final Fantasy...etc etc... all those games have their own worlds with magic, monsters and characters, places, cities, etc. Their respective owners have spent so much time and money on those worlds we love and know. And to be honest, I would love to develop a game based on those franchises except that I can't afford to pay the licenses.

One of the problem with the indies is that we lose so much time creating our own worlds and places no one knows because we just can't raise money to properly use a franchise and everybody wants to make things their own way and on the end, after designing all our world for our game, everything feels the same as any other world. And I'm not saying Warscale mythos is much different, even when I have tried to keep away from a standar fantasy world and have proposed some small particulars (i.e. No god pantheons in warscale, the concept of spheres and elements, reincarnation, stars and universe around the world), in the end Warscale is just 'another world'.

But, I was wondering what would happen if I open the Warscale world to all the indies so you all can collaborate in order to improve the world and mythos. Like an open source licensed creative commons franchise except that it would be moderated by Spritekin Entertainment. You can pick the world mythology, and improve from there, create a game, write a book or tale. Maybe there is a city on the map, or a forest and you can add detail to the world, create people living in that world, create history, create your battles which will be now part of the world, your spells, your monsters. It will be and indie for indies world so other people can create their own stories in a full and rich world. And the more content is created and the more it is used, the more it will be recognizable as a brand. So if someone publishes a Warscale game, players already can bind to the world. It may not work for everybody, but maybe for some of you it can save you a lot of time.

And how will Spritekin control that? Say you want to create a death infested mausoleum in the middle of a forest and come up with a story for the evil which invades that forest and the story is compelling and detailed, bringing a dramatic tension in the corruption of the life in the forest by the death in the graveyard and how forces of life fight it... it will definitely add flavour to the world. Or maybe you want to create a story for a lost tribe of orcs who lost their inner fire and embraced the water element instead but are now threathened by a group of Fire Orcs from their old clan... fire and water collide...

But... if another graveyard appears in the same forest with the first... meh... same story than before... it will probably fall under the ban hammer...

So, what I will retain for myself? Two things:
a. I will request the Warscale logo to be maintained. It may be altered derived for your own projects (i.e. Warscale:Tactics, Warscale:Lost cronicles, Warscale:Cataclysm... etc etc) but the logo should be respected and displayed in the product. A way to identify the product and franchise. And to be honest is not a bad logo an I think its quite elegant... I guess it can hold fine in lots of products.
b. I will approve any updates to the official docs, just so that a flying city full of mutant zombie ninjas won't just pop up from the nothingness and start destroying all the world, or a race of Beholders(TM by WotC) appears under a city or a One Ring (TM Tolkien) threathens to destroy the world. I will try to be very flexible but at the same time keeping the IP in control to avoid excesses.

Of course, contibutors will be able to add to the world and get mentions in the official document credits.
So, if you are interested in helping me with this idea and the development of the Warscale Universe, please drop a message in this forums or send me a mail to guimo at spritekin dot com. I will clean up the Warscale docs, dig into a creative commons license, place it in the Warscale website and... see what happens next... its a world for everyone to create and use!!!

Meanwhile... in the development land...
I managed to finish all the unique spells for the gold store. Here are the two missing ones.

The idea of these ultra rare spells is that they can do things out of their sphere limitations. Here is an Earth spell taking its power from fire.

As you see... a lot of damage to everything for a mere 3 mana... priceless...

And we also have this lovely one, Death element at its best. Kill anything in the Life sphere for 1 mana!!!

So, thats all for now, I'm working on gameplay improvements as someone in this forums suggested.

Luck!

Sharing a common mythos/world among a group of indie games is a very intriguing idea =)

@Matt
It is indeed intriguing... I got the idea one night while sleeping, I woke up and the idea was there. My base is that is more people joins, the brand will be enforced. Everybody gains a more robust world to use, better known, easier for a publisher to pick with its own deep story and characters.

Which is why I was hoping more people to be more interested in... but looks like I have no followers in this :).

I will try and push the idea anyway, cleanup, publish the docs, and see how it goes.

I think it's a great idea to share universes, win-win situation for both. Now if I only was developing a fantasy game...
