Holy crap, March. Why you got to be so busy? Lets just get to the update log, shall we?

  • AI featuring Universal AI Starter Kit by Twisted Jenius
  • Gonna need some super customizing tho.
  • I try to keep them restricted to guns, but this one time...

  • C++ Player::MeleeAttack in thanks to Justin over at ubiqvisuals.com
  • But did I break the animations? Ha!
  • 360 Controller in working order
  • Designed out world 1-1 on paper.
  • Bears. Mother FLIPPING BEARS!
  • Just the head, actually. Serious WIP.
  • Wife is furious I stopped to do code.
  • New Intuos 4, and with it better art software.
  • No more Photoshop Ancient Edition.
Alright, now for why you're really here: Screenshots.

Please note the awesome main character concept art by the amazingly talented Mike @ Piratewhale dot com. Took my vague description of an adventurous kiddo in over his head, the guts to go the distance, and a heart of gold. He's open for commissions if you're looking for character concepts. Any style.

TOTAL ASIDE: A good Machinima community pal of mine, Friedrich Kirschner, has been working on a new software set for a few years that looks really awesome, but it needs our help to get to the next step!

Thanks for checking in, see you again next month with more!

Isn't game design a wonderful excuse to buy new hardware/software?!

Bears. More games need bears ... or cougars ...

Yeah, totally forgot that I had upped the engine power since the last time I was poking a fork at wheeled vehicles. Those poor, poor fools.

Nothing can beat this excuse. Use it for everything now. "Honey, I need (ridiculous consumer whore product name here), I'm, uh, gonna make one for a game, so I have to know how, um, how they..."

Called my brother back during the first planning stages and asked, "Say bro, who or what are the bad guys in my game?" He replied quite simply, "Bears bro. Every game needs bears." Wise words, and so I took them to heart.

Yeah, the bots are great at stealing vehicles but they're infamously terrible drivers. This isn't the first time that they've wrecked a car they jacked. :)

I hope that the standard aspects of the kit (excluding illegally driving bots) are working well for you.

I'd say the physics on those cars is insane - or is there some sort of bumper system on them that we're not aware of? Craziness!

So, your game is ranger kid vs. angry Yogi? Awesome! Defend the picnic baskets! I see you already have a campfire....

@Steve - in the U.S., a "cougar" is an older woman who pounces on poor, unsuspecting younger men.... Or a mountain lion, I suppose, though no one uses it for that any more. So a game with cougars might be even more interesting, though it might come out more like Leisure Suit Larry....

Cougars. lol

The simple mention of it completely derails Brian's Blog.

Hahahaha, I love it! I think you guys just sold me on some end game content. :P

@Twisted: Hell yeah! The kit works great, except that I'm using the 3DAAK which completely changes the way the player works in source. They cannot aim or walk backwards, which is why I've been playing with them in a more stock copy of T3D.

My gut reaction is that some clever copy/pasta of the old player code as a new class just for the AI will do the trick. Just gotta dig in and make it happen. I really love the pets and critter functions, I'm already sensing that I could easily make some tameable wildlife ala the latest Minecraft patch...

@Richard Didn't think about it like that, but yeah, more or less! :D

Thanks! 3DAAK is pretty freaking sweet, but be warned it completely changes the way the player works, so a lot of those resources around town will be hard to work with, if you're not hip on the coding. (That would be me, heh)

The pets and stuff is just part of the Universal AI Kit. I took my time to pick it up, and immediately kicked myself for not getting it a long time ago. Just spawning in teams and watching them fight is such a big "get it done" moral booster, it's ridiculous. Feels like half the game just got made in one inexpensive pack.

I might have to take you up on that z-brushing when I finally finish the low poly pass... wish I had time to learn it myself. It's painfully awesome to watch the guys at work churn out insane creatures, just doodling! :P

Hey....I'll throw in some Zbrushing too if you'll give me a ride on one of those cars....
