The joys of TGB

Hi all,
So it's been a while since I've posted a blog here, and to be honest.... a while since I've actually sat down and used a GarageGames project. Like most I've been busy with a day job, and also working on 4 or 5 iPhone and iPad applications for other companies. Now that I'm dulling down the freelance work for a month to six weeks I decided to commence work on a private project.
So this is a reworking of an Iphone application that is already on the App Store for iOS devices (Tic Tac Glow) but with a few changes to accommodate the larger screen of a desktop. This new game is yet to gain a name, but has the basic game mechanics set out. It will be a take on the classic Tic Tac Toe mixed with Checkers. Users take it in turns to place pieces around an 8 by 8 grid in an effort to a line of pieces spanning the width of the board. To make it a little more difficult players can do things like shake the board and call upon meteor strikes to take player pieces out of play and temporarily make spaces on the board uninhabitable.
Some of the basic game mechanics are in place, such as placing pieces on the board but I still have a long way to go, as you can see, the graphics are not particularly great, they were created for another projects, or at least the board tiles were. The players pieces were made with Art Text and the background was pinched off google until I get time / money to get proper images done.
Anyway, here is a screenshot

I hope to find enough time to work on this at a decent rate, however with my full time job and spending time with the family it's difficult, which is why I have cut down on other work for now.
If you like the grass and need access to a small library of 'cute' isometric tiles, I have around 10 or so that I had created for me via recent contract just drop a mail to gavin.beard at byte-logic.com and I will sort you out!

And judging by your description of the gameplay it's not entirely that far off from having some minesweeper overtones.
Have you considered going with some type of jungle theme and having jungle plants, trees, vines etc. in the background (along the 2 back sides) with some ambient jungle sounds with light drum music and bird calls? Then you could use little wooden tiki men with bright coloured accents for your "teams". It could really work itself out to be an engaging theme.
Depending on how you wanted to work out a reward system you could also have the player collect tiki figurines or different jungle birds as they advance etc.

I don't know why but for some reason the layout of the board and the dots really remind me of minesweeper. And judging by your description of the gameplay it's not entirely that far off from having some minesweeper overtones.
