Torque X 4.0 CEV - RC phase is now on!

by Giuseppe De Francesco · 01/20/2011 (2:44 pm) · 123 comments

Hey guys,

Welcoming the return of GarageGames I'll add more good news for today: Torque X 4.0 CEV Beta phase ends today, so the current CEV product steps in the RC (Release Candidate) phase.

In a few hours all CEV users will find the 4.0 in their project list (www.xp-dev.com/projects) to start playing with it.

The Torque X Builder (TXB) for the 4.0 CEV is on the 4.0 CEV Trac website (trac2.xp-dev.com/TX4CEV) along with the first VS2010 templates. More will come in the next days. The 3D editor is still in progress so keep an eye on the Trac website for the latest news.

Please use the Trac website for bugs submission as well, as the Mantis website was only for the Beta. From now on Torque X 4.0 CEV editors updates will be published on the Trac website only and the bugs will only be accepted on the Trac website.

GarageGames has put an end to TX, but the community has not, so the CEV users, now able to deploy on XBLIG using TX 4.0 CEV for XNA 4, will also get (soon I hope) a Windows Phone 7 working environment.

I hope you like this progress ;)

Its great to see the community keeping this tool alive. after much holding back on learning to program in XNA ive finally decided to jump in and would love to be a part of the CEV, if you would permit it ;)
One question, would it be possible to use any available gener packs with this, or would we have to wait for an update also(of which there probably wont be, atleast anytime soon)?

Hi Pino,

I was going to email you directly with this question, but it seems it might be a handy thing to have on this post for anybody else who's thinking about a last minute purchase before "last rounds" on the 28th; Does the CEV work with the TorqueX platformer kit?

Many thanks for all you've done to keep the product alive.

Hi Greg,

the PSK is a different product and has to be ported as well. I did that as I do have a work in progress game using PSK and Farseer, so the answer is "Yes, it works". Upon request I can make available an access to the PSK but it's more difficult as I need to see the license ownership so people have to send me a screenshot of their product page on this site. BTW, the changes to make the PSK work in XNA 4.0 aren't a lot and are quite straight forward.
