Christmas Promo, Current Work and What Lies Ahead

by Alan James · 12/14/2010 (5:51 am) · 40 comments

Hey Everyone!

Well, for me it's been a long time since I've posted. Actually about three months and a lot has gone on during that time. A few folks have expressed interest regarding updates that lie ahead for Torque based assets and such, and at this point, I'm still moving ahead. Since the conversion to T3D specific models really leaves me the opportunity to diversify in other directions anyway, it's really a no-brainer.

I've been focusing on primarily an extensive update of the Downtown District, Warehouse District and the Alley Ambiance Pack(that will eventually be the Game Basics Pack). I've pretty much decided to merge the three into a single pack, since that seems the best way to go at this point.

Here are a few new screenshots of work in progress involving the Downtown District Pack and assets from the Game Basics Pack. I'm moving towards most of the building models having interiors, also I intend at this point to included working doors. Breakable windows may or may not be in the mix.

Eventually the current "bundle" on www.monsterpacks.com, will reflecting the updated buildings, textures, smaller assets, etc. This update is primarily aimed at T3D (although all of the assets should also work fine in TGEA). Anyone who has previously picked up any of the three packs, i.e. the Downtown District, Warehouse District or Alley Ambiance will benefit from the update, since each one of those particular portions of the final bundle will be updated for free also. This all should come together in a comprehensive update for T3D just after the first of the year. Stay tuned.

Anyway, my best to all the folks formerly at TorquePowered/IA. I truly hope that something is resolved in the near future before you are all snatched up by other interests! Like most corporations fail to realize, the most important assets of IA/TorquePowered are not the products, but the people and community behind them.

Oh, almost forgot, through the end of December, 25% off all packs on www.monsterpacks.com. Use coupon code: Christmas2010 or December2010

Man, that looks great. The game I have planned after my fantasy RPG is a near-future urban RPG, so those will fit nicely. Keep up the great work Alan, you'll always have a customer here. :)

And Merry Christmas!

@Everyone, Thanks as always

@Alienforce, that "will" be the right bundle,(since the updates that I'm working on as noted above aren't complete, still several weeks out - I'll make the post above more clear on it's status in the morning), but they will be a free update for those who own this pack. Anyone with either of the three individual packs will get discounted updates to the new bundle pack (or have their specific portion of the pack updated for free).

@Alienforce Pt2:

Confusing enough? The new bundle will run more than likely $59.95, so it's probably as good as time as ever to at least get locked in to the free update and best price.

Long story short, yes that is the right link.

@Alan, espectacular work, asl usual.

Question: I would be interested in the bundle pack for T3D, however with a top down view of the models, with no interiors.

Will be something like that still present? It has/will have LODs?

Pure awesomeness :D.

Merry Christmas btw.

@Alan

Half a click away from buing :)

"Also the source files are included for adaption to your particular game, i.e. aging of textures, bullet
holes, damage, etc."

Working format is DIF and DTS... right.

But the source files ?? please let it be 3DS Max :)

@Novack,
LOL, that's what I was trying to update! *Adding* interiors! =)
I could actually do a conversion of the originals with LODs for a kind of RTS/mobile type application. Let me get through with these dastardly interior versions and I'll get back to you on that.

@Alienforce,

There is a 2.03A/2.04 release of the Downtown District that includes .obj format that should be fine for 3DS Max (I know they work ok in Lightray 3D which is a inexpensive knock off of an older version of Max), they also include .MS3D which can send them out to .obj, .3ds, etc. and any of the .MAPs can be converted to just about anything with the Community Edition (Free) of Deled.

It's a very simple load and then export to .x, .obj, .dae, .ms3d, etc. I generally stick with .obj, since it maintains the model integrity pretty much perfectly, then do any of the LOD work in Lightray 3D.

It's basically the same with the Warehouse and Alley Ambiance, .map, .obj, .ms3d, or some combination of these.

Love all your work! Looks wonderful! And it's awesome how I might have bought the Downtown Districts pack last year, but am getting improved content all the time! Love your updates!

EDIT: What format do your packs come in, can't find my pack on my computer, and would like to be able to use the content in other engines/programs.

Like, would the models work correctly in Unity?

@Max
As I mentioned to Alienforce, the model formats could be converted to formats that are workable in Unity (.FBX, .DAE) with something like DeleD or Milkshape. It requires some tweaking, but it can be done. I'm also looking at this down the road as part of the packs/versions of the packs to broaden the engine base (C4, Sunburn, Untiy3d, Shiva to mention a few).

Getting static objects into Unity is probably easy, as long as you have materials defined. The folks over there do prefer FBX, though. Not sure what Shiva uses, but I think FBX+OBJ are favourites there too. You should also check what UDK like, what with the upcoming iOS release and the expected flood of new users ;)

When I saw there was a discount, I went straight to your site, only to realize I had already bought everything thats up right now. =P

@jack D.

=) Yeah, the focus now is to bring all the packs up to speed on T3D B3, since that looks like the release that's going to be around for a while (ever?)

Once the DD/WH/GB Pack is gold in T3D B3, all of the packs will be getting finalized for that release. I'll be trying to branch out a bit as this process moves forward, and then I have several different things in the works.

@Alan, hehe sorry to go always the other way :)

Let know when you consider the originals with LODs.
Cheers! =)
