Torque X and XNA GS 4.0 – Status and Beta

by Giuseppe De Francesco · 10/13/2010 (9:28 am) · 19 comments

Microsoft announced that by the December 21st (end of Fall) they’ll release the final XNA GS Connect and from there “ there will be a 90-day window where you can submit games created with XNA Game Studio 3.1 or games created with XNA Game Studio 4.0. After that 90-day window is up, you will only be able to submit games created with XNA Game Studio 4.0”.

As you all know Torque X 4.0 CEV is in progress and I’m happy to tell that the group of people working on the port has done a wonderful job, so we are way ahead of the deadline that Microsoft just announced.

The Windows and Xbox 360 platforms are almost finished, so we need people wanting to participate in the Beta phase. The current Beta will be open to 2D only (we have issues with the 3D terrain) and in a short while 3D as well.

The Beta testers will have read access to our SVN repository and will be automatically enrolled in a “Beta Group” mailing list to allow a quick feedback to the porting team.

To take part in Beta phase send me an email (pino [AT] dftgames [DOT] com).

IA should Send pay Pino a salary for the amount of work he has done. GJ to everyone who worked on the project, without the help of so many my and many other community games would not be shipping. :)

Great to see this happening. BTW, I hope everyone noticed that we lifted the restrictions that prevented TorqueX from being used on Windows Phone 7. I'd love to see Torque games there ( although I realize many within the community are more focused on XBox ).

@ Matt,

Yes Pino should get financially compensated for this. He has done a lot of work for community

@ Eric, I cannot wait to make apps for WP7. Personally I think that MS is going to put a lot into this so getting in early will for sure be a great idea :)

Thanks guys, but really this is a teamwork result: I couldn't never do this alone, each team member has given a great contribution to make this happen ;)

Hope you can use Morgan :)
I'll try and free some time to help, but no promise, sadly.

EDIT-
Just read about the phone news. That coupled with this blog's news pretty much put to rest much of my bad feelings. Not sure I'll buy Instant Action's softwares any time soon still, but at least I won't recommend to people to steer clear.

Pino the hero, well done!

Who else is on the project, so we may congratulate and thank them too?

I know when you put out the call, I volunteered: but also admitted that I have neither the time nor the direct XNA experience to probably be actually helpful. =) With the beta test, I can at least be helpful for purposes of testing... awesome! =)

I second the paypal motion; IA should be ashamed of themselves that what they decided not to pursue to be accomplished by a bunch of hardened code-merc's led "che" Pino De Francesco, Viva La CEV !

=)

Nice work as always!

Finantial compensation for Pino would be nice, maybe it could set precedents so that other people might take interest in contributing like he did.

I know it is a team effort but his persona and interest is what sparked the initiative, I'm almost sure the other contributors would say the same.

One solution could be that a portion of every new purchase of TX could go to him.

Pino, congrats, excellent project.

We currently working on iPhone games with iT2D, but it would be nice having the Windows Phone 7 option (as Eric mentioned).
Please keep us posted on this topic.
