Shader Pack vol.2 "Glow effects"
by Ivan Mandzhukov · 09/30/2010 (7:02 am) · 18 comments

After many months of hard work we finally released our second shader pack dedicated to glow effects. Everything started a few months ago when we needed a new glow effect for our game we are developing. Then we decided to assemble a collection of several new glow effects and share it with the torque community.
In this shader pack you will find interesting and new glow effects, some of them needed from many torque developers. In short - this shader collection gives you 10 kinds of glow effects. The shaders are easy-to-edit and can be modified to satisfy any need. We accomplished this by giving the end user variety of parameters and a clean source code in every shader.

I've updated The Big Shader Thread with this information.
The "Magic Rays" shader is the same as the "God Rays" shader I have been looking to find.
Great Work Ivan!

Looks good, just FYI having some issues loading the manual, both the preview and the full through PDF. I reinstalled adobe 9 twice now trying to get it to work and still closes out the browser everytime I go to look. Do you have an HTML version of the manual available or would it be possible to have it emailed to me? I don't honestly know if its on my end or the web sites since I just upgraded to Windows 7 HP 64 bit laptop. So I can't tell, but I'm assuming its not on your end... Please let me know thanks much for the help. Will

Will, toss that bloated thing named Acrobat into the garbage. Grab Foxit...it's a million times smaller and faster..www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/Hopefully that will sort ya out.

@Will - unfortunatelly I have the documents (preview and full manual) in PDF only. Anyway I e-mailed them to you and you can try opening them not into the browser. Hope that helps.

That flare glow looks like it will be perfect for aircraft lights. In your distance comparison screenshots, you show a really far version of the flare glow, how about a really really far version (10000 units)? :)

This looks like a great pack and I will buy in the future like Michael said I was wondering can you make a video of the effect and load it on youtube so we can see in game effect with motion? also with pack 1 to.
thanks

@Michael and Kory
I will provide a video of the effects.This will take some time,because there are many things in my todo list.
@Adam
The flare will be still visible.The flare can be adjusted to be bigger,smaller,etc..
by the way I haven't forgotten your request about the Heat Haze,I am just waiting for an official version (not beta) to port it as a free resource.
For those who purchased the pack and have questions about multiple glow support at the same time during the gameplay - I will provide a solution for that.Currently I have this resource available.

The 'Heat Glow' was actually made for lava.I use a texel animation that shifts the offset,thus creating a lava like movable heat.
You could create a plane with an UV animation (the material editor supports that),then you apply the 'Heat Glow' and you get a very solid lava effect.The shader has many parameters,the heat is adjustable (color,speed,power,..).

Can those shaders be controlled using torque script at run-time during game play - like switching them on and off and passing different values to their
input parameters so that the final effect varies according to different events in the game play ?
And is there any heat haze shader included in those packs ?

Does your shader packs work with latest MIT version of Torque 3D version 2.0 ?Can those shaders be controlled using torque script at run-time during game play - like switching them on and off and passing different values to their
input parameters so that the final effect varies according to different events in the game play ?
And is there any heat haze shader included in those packs ?

You can change shader parameters directly in the code, forcing them to recompile.
If you crash the shader, then restart T3D.
Heat Haze was finished in Liman3D. We are using "deferred particles".
There is no way to include the code for free in the shader packs.
Very few people ask about shaders, there is no interest.
That's why we stopped the new shader packs.
We actually have a new technology, which we made for Deo. But it is pointless to make it public for 50 customers.

Yes it works with the latest T3D versions.You can change shader parameters directly in the code, forcing them to recompile.
