Torque X 3.1.5 CEV (Community Enhanced Version)

by Giuseppe De Francesco · 08/31/2010 (3:15 pm) · 90 comments

Hey guys,

Torque X 3.1.5 CEV (Community Enhanced Version) has lived within the Torque X forum without a well deserved blogging about it, so here I am to present this version.

A little history: this version starts with Torque X 3.1.4 when I found myself bashing my head on a long list of memory leaks (see this thread) so I had to decide if going ahead with Torque and fix it or drop it and move on. Because I honestly believe that Torque X 2D is the best XNA engine on the market I decided to fix it and share the fixed version with the community granting access to my private SVN repository.

This has grown in time, with many other great community members contributing to make it better (see this thread) and now thanks to Ron Barbosa we have also Farseer Physics integrated in Torque X, isn’t that great?

Enough words now… let me present the first set of video showcasing Particles Collisions and Farseer Physics integration.

Enjoy :)

BTW: How do you get access to this edition? just post here or in a related thread your request (to show that you are a licensee) and if in your profile there is no email shown then drop me a messasge at pino [AT] dftgames [DOT] com and I'll send you the access invites.

@Pino...thanks for taking the time to write this blog post and for getting the community to rally behind this version of the Torque X engine.

Getting your resource management and memory utilization improvements into the core code base was a huge win for the community.

It allowed community contributors to focus on features and the developers to focus on making great games.

I'm glad to have made a contribution to the project, and I hope that people will find the community's efforts to be a worthwhile addition to the core product.

For those customers who purchased the Pro version of Torque X...check out the Community Enhanced Version repository...it's got some really great additions that will help you build feature-rich games in a short amount of time.

Thanks again, Pino!

Guys, are you also planning on improving the 3D part?

@Andy: the 3D has one main issue and it's with the editor. I felt to be pointless working on the 3D engine not being able to make the editor actually usable. I'm waiting an answer from IA to know if this will be allowed. If I'll get a green light then yes, the 3D part will be enhanced as well.

Although I'm just about to start with developing in TorqueX and only can guess about the use of your enhancements I want to say that it's very kind of you to share your enhancements. Thank you.

PS: physics integration looks nice

Thanks Thorsten and eb...I've been having alot of fun working on the Farseer integration...things are coming along really well.

I just finished working out some things with Pino, and he's got some additional work that he's doing on some cool stuff with the Farseer integration.

I'll let him tell you all about it when it's ready! ;)

Just to let everyone know, this has been a God-send for my upcoming XNA game.

No more code 3 errors due to graphics memory leaks.
