Calm before the Storm

The Calm...
The period just before Memorial Day was looking pretty good. Pariah Games had just completed its first new game since the reorganization, and work was proceeding nicely on our follow-ups. People were working hard, and pulling together.
The Storm...
My wife went in for a colonoscopy on the Friday before Memorial day weekend. They discovered a malignant tumor. The next day was surgery to remove a large section of her intestines. From that point my life became a whirl of doctors, hospitals, emergency rooms (our initial attempt to take her home had some setbacks) and laboratories. I had to cover all her dance classes, as well as my teaching schedule, and my own small game business.
The team has soldiered on continuing to make progress. Meanwhile I have been burning up our cell phone minutes with dozens of calls from her friends, fellow teachers, and students - past and present.
This could be a negative blog, but it isn't going to be. I just want to let everyone know that we (Deb and I) appreciate it all, the calls, the flowers, the home made dinners dropped at the door. I appreciate the team working on even though I wasn't there for 90% of the meetings, and for just "getting it done" in my absence.
I wish I could say that I expect that to change real soon, but the reality is that there will be months of radiation and chemotherapy and I have to continue to do all her classes, as well as my teaching, and running my own small game company.
Because I'm not giving up. We have good ideas, a good team, and we make good games. We have good friends and good doctors. We are going to beat this and come back stronger than ever. I'm going to look for more people to expand the team in the coming weeks, and to turn even more of those game ideas into entertainment for lots of good people - like her friends.
So to the team, the friends, and the doctors.
Thanks - a lot. Now, let's get it done.
