Hi Torquers,

I think it's about time I peeked out of my hiding place and posted my first blog. I've been a member here for almost 6 years, you may have seen my brother Jan-Ove around as he posts a little more frequently..

Anyway, a little more about what I've been up to the last years is probably useful.

So, I've been working more than full time as a coder on Torque based projects for about 5 years now. On projects together with my brother handling the artwork as well as freelance work for torque based clients. In true Indie spirit we run the company Narcissistic Studios together out of our apartment in Sweden, supporting our own projects only by freelance work.

Originally we set out to make a game in TGE (No, not an MMO) but after a couple of years it became apparent that we needed to think smaller, it took way to long for just the two of us to take on a project like that. Said and done, we started freelancing exclusively on projects that lead to a deeper understanding of Torque tech, well me at least, doing artwork my brother doesn't really need to stick to a specific engine or platform or even games for that matter.

We jumped on TGB and started our first 2D projects, after a couple tries we ended up with something that both me and Jove really enjoyed and we've been working on it for about two and a half years now. A project that I'm very happy to say is finally nearing its completion.

Anyhow, with the project nearing completion I've been itching to show what we've been up to, so I decided to start a blog series breaking down the technology behind our game and how we've been able to build on TGB.

So for my first post me and Jan-Ove have thrown together a tech demo showcasing some of the tech with shiny new graphics. It took us two days from start to finish including all the graphics, physic setups, tweaking and polishing. This was a test for our pipeline and I'm happy with how quickly it went, it seems that all the time spent on the tools and process have finally started paying off.

Enough talk, here's the video, it would be great to hear some thoughts on what we are up to.

That's all for now, the next time I'll go a little deeper into the making of the tech demo and how our pipeline is structured.

Regards
Torbjörn Leksell

Simply awesome, that's the only way to describe it! I'm looking forward to seeing more.

And I'm pretty sure we all make that mistake of thinking too big the first time out of the gate, even when we know better.

100% pure awesomeness!

According to the first frame of the video, I thought "ok, great art, but can the gameplay be fun too?"
Then, looking at the video, I just wanna play it right now!

Very looking forward to this =)

Wow, thanks for the encouragement guys!

I think I should clarify that this is just a tech demo though, the actual game doesn't look or behave like this, we just threw this together in two days so we'd have something to demonstrate the tech before we announce the game itself. The actual game has a lot more time and though put into it :) Sorry about the confusion.

@Johnny Vo: We haven't set a release date for the actual game yet, I'll keep you all posted on that when the time comes.

This is looking brilliant, and since it's just a tech demo I can only imagine the amount of work you guys put into the actual game. Did you use the TGB physics engine?

Torbjorn can you write a resource about "how to create bloom effect"?
