First day of my new game, epic blog in order

I decided today to start out writing my XBL game for Project Gert. I have several advantages I think in beginning this project, hence why I am attempting it. I'm going to lay out several goals for the project now, in a way that hopefully does not hint at any kind of certain doom.

Main Menu: Single Player, Two player via XBL, but also "Personal Stats" and "Logs" of things like, how far you have gone in game, story arc unveiled, achievement hunting, etc. Possibly also things like "unlockable art" as I tried to feature this in my first game, and I'd like to continue that theme. Maybe even an open game lobby, for hunting down other spy's who want to go on missions, or help with achievement hunting etc.

Gameplay: Several items throughout game, and keys and things, item inventory's. Once you have passed all missions, there may be a way to go back, use key's, and unlock certain things, I'm not sure. But going for an almost "Roleplaying" aspect in the platformer, should make it seem more realistic. After all, I hope to be making roleplaying games someday, so edging this platformer towards that genre might be an interesting feel.

Lay of the land: My idea is to get all these features into the game, and then to take a good hard look at how this game stacks up across multiple screen resolutions. After some tweaking, if I can, I'll then declare the game almost finished and begin hiring artists as i did on my last game, to polish it, also possibly hire a writer and or possibly compositor to help with level creations. Once that is done, I guess it will be on xbox live for all to see.

Thats my rough layout.. This is obviously a less than epic and poorly thought out blog, but hopefully it will be a good building block for this game I'm creating.

Target Date: September 1st.

Keep us updated. Best of luck. That's quite a combination for a game developer...art, literature and CS. You are like a one man band for games.

Awesome to hear that you are trying a XBL version of GERT. Is this going to be mostly a port?
