An automated backup system was put in place this week. This system will backup the Myrmidon related web sites, database, and source code each week to a backup share which is then burned to CD each month.

Created an Art Lounge virtual directory off the 21-6.com web site that will be used to store add-ons, base models, textures, and other helpful things for the 10-person art team.

Some work has begun on defining a "art asset creation process" which includes content creation and approval phases. With a team this big, it is important that the artists know who to go to for content approval and when. We have had some problems with multiple people providing direct conflicting feedback to the artists and that is just confusing and gets in the way of progress. What a learning curve :)

Art
A great deal of time was spent this past week working out issues with the Soldier Bug model. One of the biggest questions was whether the bug was going to run on all 6 legs or only just on 4. Some sample animations were provided to compare and contrast but in the end, we chose an upright, and 4 legged running style. We may revisit the 6 legged running styles in a future phase because it was so cool. Final tweaks were made to the bug model itself and it is now considered complete for Phase 2. Textures have been created but are still under review.

The Recon Ship (safe area) for the Research Station mission continues to be developed. The blue print for the ship and its rooms has been developed and approved. Quark is being used to develop the ship, which is already partially completed.

Color versions of the three Myrmidon head "skins" the player can choose from when creating their character were submitted and approved this past week. Work continues on the color version of the two armor body suits.

Programming
Mission Preparation and Safe Area integration were completed this past week and are being committed to the CVS repository this week. This is our first bit of game-specific logic that is being implemented and includes features like: everyone having to click "ready" once they are ready to start the mission, the mission creator (squad leader) can officially "launch" the mission once everyone is "ready", a vortex opens in the safe area, characters walk into the vortex and get transported to the surface. Characters can then use a beacon to open a vortex back to the ship from anywhere in the mission area.

The user interface coding is still in progress. There was more work required here than was originally anticipated. Hopefully all the common controls will be completed this week including a combo box, progress control, slider, checkbox, and radio buttons. The harder controls were finished this past week: columnar list control, tab control, and a scrollable window.

Intro Movie
The first official version of the story board for the intro movie was completed this past week complete with synchronized narration. The next step is to start putting together some 3D stills to work out the timing.

Logos
Work continues on the 21-6 and Myrmidon logos. Some hand drawn lettering for the Myrmidon logo was cleaned up and submitted to serve as a base for the game logo. We are hoping for a dark/sinister, sci-fi look to the Myrmidon logo and hope that hand drawn lettering will provide uniqueness over a modified font.

About the vortex-begin mission thing, I think it would be cool if they flew down in drop-pods or something like that. Well, that's if the game doesn't require sneaking elements, because that would probably make quite a bit of noise and light...fire...explosions...craters...never mind...

Actually, thats a great idea. We have talked about the "safe area" taking different forms in the different missions delivered with the game - like an underground base or a drop ship. I don't see why we couldn't also include alternate transportation to and from the "safe area" to add to the expiernce. I will add it to the wish list for Phase 3 :) Thanks!
