TGB Kart Kit version 1.2 has arrived! So many things have changed that I would rather describe what it is now than what is different from 1.1. So here goes!

  • Four karts: Cassy Bear, Ronnie Ram, Sammie Salmon, and Bernie Beaver
  • Five powerups: speed boost, slime spill, spring jump, apple throw, and shrink opponents
  • Nine tracks: mountain trails, island circuits, and more
  • Three game modes: Grand Prix, Time Trial, and Free Play -- plus automatic Mirror Mode
  • Shorthand functions for drawing sprites, scrollers, triggers, and particle effects
  • Animated effects: water splash, dust, snow dust, and grass fluff
  • "3D" objects that rotate with the camera view
  • Upright and flat modes for sprites, scrollers, animations, and particle effects
  • Detachable camera can view the action from any angle
  • Waypoints and AI path points that keep racers on the road
  • Easy to use profiles to edit or create additional karts, tracks, or powerups
  • Lap tracking and racer ranking
  • Sophisticated HUD with speedometer, mini map, ranks, time, and pause
  • Speed ramps, jumps, shortcuts, and moving obstacles
  • Basic racer AI
  • Multiplatform music and sound wrappers
  • Steering options with tunable parameters: keyboard, iPhone touch, iPhone tilt
  • Engine tweaks for optimal performance
  • Thorough documentation with overview, tutorials, and iPhone optimization tips

I have also updated the preview video, which you can watch here.

I honestly, deep down believe that this is a fantastic kit for $50. The work required to get your own game done, be it on iPhone / PC / Mac, is on par with game modding. It runs, out of box, smoothly on even the slowest iDevices. Every core feature needed for a kart game is there. And it's easy to extend, add to, or remove those features as you see fit. I also want to say that without a doubt, this is a proven kit. Three TGB Kart Kit games have been published in the iPhone app store in the past 4 months: Cascadia Kart, Glacier Racer, and Zombie Karts.

The only concern I have is to thoroughly make sure people understand that "Cascadia Kart" is an example game, not a compilation of usable assets. So while the intent here is to give you a game to mod, you are not licensed to use the media files in your publication(s) without getting your own separate sounds license from SoundSnap.com (monthly fee) and SoundPortfolio.com (free), the music without your own separate license from Neosounds.com ($10 per loop), or any of the media that I created (images, kart engine sounds). In other words, don't get me in trouble for giving you the best example game that I can. :)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the compliments. I also just submitted to Apple last night a free "lite" version of Cascadia Kart. So the truly zero budget indie can take a look at what the kit features.
