1/21/2010 IRC Hour
Greetings Community! Every 3rd Thursday of a month we have an IRC Hour for the community.
Where Is It?:
Server: irc.maxgaming.net
Channel: #GarageGames
When Is It?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)
When Is It, Again?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)
I feel the need to post this twice for some people who keep forgetting.
What Is It?: IRC Hour is a chance for the community to have real-time talks with Torque employees and our site admins, Scott Burns and David Montgomery-Blake. We will be using the IRC channel hosted by MaxGaming OnLine.
What It Is Not: Debugging other people's code, marathon one-on-one help sessions, soap-box rants, etc.
The Agenda:
New Leadership
Torque 3D Updates (1.1 Beta, Recent News, Documentation)
Global Game Jam
Preparations for GDC
Return of Video Tutorials
State of the Community
Community Suggestions:
Post your suggestions in the comments section.
- Torque 2D update

I'm confused. Is it today the 1/20 or tomorrow 1/21?

We'll see if I can stay awake. My IRC client will at least usually be logged in, so if you lose the log AGAIN, just ask me ;)

Third Thursday of the month if I remember correctly.
[edit] or "3rd Thursday of every month" as it actually says!

I just talked to Nostradamus and he predicts we will see T3D 1.1 Beta tomorrow. Will be on IRC, thanks guys, you guys are doing a magnificent job. The engine is an overkill, can't wait to see what you have in store leading up to 1.1 final.

If I wasn't working I would attend the IRC Hour just to ask about T2D status, not that I would get an answer.

Torque2D Is the project dead? Sure seams that way..... No IRC topic, no blog, no posts. TGB doesnt work work modern OSes without code patches, no updates to TGB is forever and a day, no nothing. <sarcasm>Very good communication from the company on Torque2D</sarcasm>If I wasn't working I would attend the IRC Hour just to ask about T2D status, not that I would get an answer.

I'll take the blame for the lack of updates. With the new transition I've asked everyone to take a step back ( something we should do every year ) and look at their projects, find long term opportunities to improve them, and access critial risks that cause release slips. If you are a programmer, I think this process is most similar to refactoring. It's how technology builds a better foundation for growth.
Nothing is dead. If anything, we are looking for areas to invest in more ( I know you have a lot of ideas; we have 100s that we documented and organized last week ). Our commitment to community is ever strong and we are looking to improve in that domain as well.
@Justin, I hope we get the chance to win you over. It may take a lot of work on our part to get to the levels we need to achieve this goal -but I'm very confident. The team here is strong and very talented.
Anyways, I've done more soap box talking than I'd like to do. The proof will be in what we accomplish, not promise.

The current version is too unstable to use, and it only works on the 2.2 SDK technology.
Didn't I hear somewhere that they were going to update the codebase from TGE to T3D?

Will be cool if you add small script that will count how much time left to the IRC Hour. Because some people leave in different time zone and it is hard to count how much time for left

@Justin - Before you posted, the topic of Torque 2D update was added via community suggestion. It was already planned. Eric covered why there has been a lack of communication, but as he said, we can fully attest that development is coming along nicely. We'll talk about that more in IRC later today. The transcript will be posted around 5 or 6 tonight. So up the patience please =)
